@bees_knees: @gingerbebe: THANK YOU both for these ideas. Just ordered both to save for Christmas!

DS is also two a month before Christmas and right now he is obsessed** with this. Picked it up at Whole Foods on a whim:

https://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Magnetic-Loader-Semi-Trailer/dp/B00FZMDAJG/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_21_bs_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2N6RW5ZPRMY9KABA7KX1&dpID=41flFYaXcsL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail

I mean he is sleeping with it, taking it in the car seat, everything!

I think art supplies, stickers and play doh are great ideas. Color wonder coloring books have been a big hit with my 2 year old. He also loves, loves, loves his magnadoodle.

The wooden slicing fruit/food playsets are super fun. Tea sets are nice. They have ones where all the pieces fit inside the teapot.

My kid (and my husband and the aunt/ uncle we see most) LOVE playing with the soft wind up Melissa and Doug cars. They don’t take up a ton of space but they are universally loved, despite being rated for 9 month olds. I sent them to my goddaughter and her sister (almost 5 and almost 3) and they loved them too, so I think they will have a long shelf life :)

I’m struggling with this as well- my second daughter turns two a week before Christmas. I’m trying to think ahead to things she will want at 2.5 too since she’s getting all her gifts for the year at once (my other daughter has a July bday so it’s perfect for splitting up gifts).

A baby doll and inexpensive doll stroller has stood the test of time- my 4 yo just broke the $10 Target one she got two years ago and I have no problem replacing it since it’s used a ton. And it’s collaspable so takes up hardly any space.

We have had this small dollhouse since my older one was about two and she still uses it and it’s nice and contained. Linking to amazon but I have seen it in Marshall’s a lot lately. Melissa & Doug Fold and Go Wooden Dollhouse With 2 Dolls and Wooden Furniture https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001P9OGRS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_QAM7zb34SZT5K

We also got a little balance bike and micro scooter around that age but she wasn’t quite ready- but again, thinking towards this summer isn’t a bad idea.

My kids are 3 and 16 months and they have enjoyed:

- Magnatiles
- Playfoam
- Playmobil sets (more the older child than the younger)
- Wooden food toys, like the Melissa and Dough ice cream scoop set and the wooden pizza set. Then we play like we're eating at a restaurant (my kids just really like ice cream and pizza so that's their thing).
- This phone for some reason is a hit with both kids. https://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-Count-Smart-Phone-Scout/dp/B004MWN0MC?th=1

The other small things DD loves right now are her baby doll (with bottles and diapers), puzzles, melissa and doug reusable sticker books, Water Wow painting, Color Wonder markers, other art supplies.

Could you make her a homemade play kitchen? Some boxes that you paint that can be broken down and reassembled as necessary? Or even empty out a low cabinet and make it "her" kitchen? You don't even need to buy play food - you can give her cans and boxes from your pantry, and maybe a pot you don't use that often.

We got LO a subscription to Highlights for her 2nd birthday (the little kids version). She loves getting her magazine in the mail every month and we read the stories over and over again. As she gets a little older, I think she'll like the picture hunts, etc. although they are over her head right now.

DS1 got into these puzzles shortly after turning 2, and they are still a hit at 3.5. Not a “big” present, but a good idea for grandparents...and something that doesn’t make noise or take up a lot of room

My lo will turn 2 just before Christmas and I'm really struggling with gift ideas. We live in a very small house so don't have much room for toys. I know she would love a play kitchen but I have no room for it! What do your kids love that doesn't take up much space? Bonus points if it can be ordered on Amazon since that's how the grandparents prefer to shop. Thanks!!
ETA: we live in a very cold climate so outdoor toys are fine, but can't use until June or so....
