@banana: Phew! We've been in the midst of this for a couple weeks, and it's tough. I'm glad to hear it didn't last very long for your son; hopefully DD will be the same way. I just felt awful when I dropped her off for daycare this morning and she was screaming "Mama" and trying to run out the door to me. :(

Charlie actually started crying when we dropped him off at daycare well after olive came home. He had a delayed reaction I think to get arrival that also affected his sleep. It could be the new baby plus get age!

@honeybee: LOL! He pointed to it and started saying "Umma! Umma!" (which is "mom" in korean). I guess he thought the profile pic was ME! Anyways, I forgot to mention that a few months ago, my son went through a weird separation anxiety phase too. He would start bawling whenever my husband or I even just left the room. Which was weird behavior cause he's typically not a big crier. I couldn't understand why his behavior changed so suddenly. That lasted probably around 3-4 weeks. And then he went back to normal, with just very slight separation anxiety (like when we leave the house). It was definitely just a phase!

My son, who is also 2, just started getting scared of random things too. I had a Destination Maternity shopping bag on my desk and he freaked out when he saw it. He thinks the profile of the pregnant woman on the bag is scary. (????) Go figure.

@Mrs. Jacks: Ah, growing up is hard. I'm so proud of how big our girls are getting, but sometimes I wish they would stay little for just a bit longer.

@Honeybee: Yeah, there was nothing we could do to make the bunny less scary. I think it's an important stage in their understanding that the world is not a predictable place and is probably very adaptive for kids who are now able to inflict much more damage on themselves.

@Mrs. Jacks: Poor Lala! I'm so glad someone else is going through this, though! DD has always loved school, which is one of the main reasons we decided to keep her in a couple days a week, even after I stopped working. Dropping her off this morning, though,, I was seriously considering taking her out altogether; I'm glad to know this is a normal part of development.

I have noticed that she's started saying things are "Scary." She told me spiderwebs are scary the other day, so we went outside to look at a spiderweb more closely; now she thinks they're "cool". :) Too bad it doesn't work in every situation!

So 2 is the "fear" age where kids start developing irrational fears. Lala is terrified of this one bunny, while her best friend right now is terrified of fireworks. I think once they get to that stage, they get very focused on their primary caregiver as a source of reassurance.

For example, this morning we officially started with our new nanny. For whatever reason, Lala has decided that she wants nothing to do with her (she used to love her), and I had to hold her all morning until we left for school. Then she cried when I left her at school too.

Likely it's just a phase, but of course for me, I'm freaking out as to whether this nanny is right for us!

All of a sudden, within the last couple weeks, DD has totally regressed and is having major separation anxiety. She goes to daycare two days a week, which she normally LOVES, but lately I can't get out the door without her having a complete meltdown. She's always been super friendly and outgoing, but she doesn't want to talk to other people or play with her friends; she basically wants me to hold her all day (she even asked me to hold her in the car the other day). What is going on?!

She's 2, and DS is almost 4 months. She doesn't have any issues with DS, she just seems super clingy all of a sudden. As far as I can tell, nothing has changed in the last 2-3 weeks; her behavior seems out of nowhere.
