@mamacate how awesome!! Yeah she asked for the binki this morning and never took it anywhere but to sleep. She didn't ask for it one night so we just took it and didn't offer it again. She doesn't cry for it but she does occasionally ask.

@mynoabear this is my biggest fear. I want her to sleep on her own but the only way I get her to sleep in her bed is if I rub her back for ages in the evenings. If I hold her in my lap while my DH quietly plays a video game or something else she just falls asleep and I can put her to bed not a single problem or peep. I can't do this with a newborn coming though!!

All I can say is that it will only get harder if you don't figure out a solution before baby comes. I only say this because I'm going through this now and it is soooo hard. It makes me dread bedtime. My DD #1 (2.5 years old) needs someone to stay in her room until she falls asleep and it usually ends up being a 1-2 hour process. My DD #2 is only 5 months old and is a horrible sleeper, so I can't just put her in her crib and have her fall asleep because she won't. Bedtime is a struggle every night and it's worse because I have to take DD#2 into DD#1's room with me and they end up waking each other up several times in the process. It's ok on nights my DH is home to help but most nights, he has to work past the girls' bedtime. I've tried putting DD #2 to sleep earlier before DD #1 but that doesn't work because the older one will come into the room to talk or ask a question and this wakes up the baby.

My toddler still uses a pacifier for naps and bedtime. We've delayed pacifier weaning because we just moved and it's the only thing that remotely helps her fall asleep at the moment.

The baby refuses the pacifier and all bottles, so right now, I'm the only one who can put her to bed, which makes it even harder.

Sigh. My 2 y.o. has never been a great sleeper either. She is almost 2 1/2 and we still give her the pacifier at night and naps because it seems to make such a difference for her. DH fought to keep it and I was initially against it but it seems to work for us for now.

Anyway, I wanted to share what has worked for us the past month or so: "big girl time". We have never had LO fall asleep on her own but I was just done with all the patting and sitting in the dark for hours on end until she fell asleep. So DH came up with the idea to have her practice lying down by herself for "big girl time". She is very interested in being "big" right now so this was appealing to her. All we did was tuck her in, turn out the lights, and give her "big girl time" for several minutes and then go back in and check on her, pat her, etc. As the days went by we stretched out the time before going to check on her, and she now regularly falls asleep by herself. I wondered at times if she would ever do this but (knock on wood) it is working for us! Let me know if you have questions...

My 2 year old is struggling to sleep on her own. She will fall asleep after some singing and back rubs but as soon as I leave her room she wakes up screaming. This can go on for 1-2 hours nightly until she's so exhausted she can't stay up. We binki weaned maybe 1 month ago now and she still seems to miss it dearly. This morning she just asked for it.

Any ideas? Anyone else care to share their struggle? She will sleep perfectly if I hold her but obviously id like to avoid her falling asleep on me and then moving her. I'm 17 weeks pregnant and scared of when the baby will come!!
