@wheres_c: yeah that is always one of the first questions for the ped unfortunately is when I can send them back. If it's chicken pox, it was when they started scabbing over. Incubation is like 10-14 days so kids would have been exposed weeks ago. Not sure about hfm, I'll have to read up.

@matador84: ugh I dread seeing those notices at daycare - but *touch wood* we've never caught any of the daycare stuff yet. Given that it's the weekend now hopefully she wasn't contagious then. If it is HFM, there's a lot of debate how soon she can be back at school so that might be a question for your pediatrician.

@matador84: since HFM is airborne and she was running fever at the time of the party I would still notify the party host so everyone else can keep an eye on their kids just in case. I hope your LO feels better soon!

It looks like HFM to me also. When DD got it a couple weeks back it actually started on her face, then went to her legs, then torso, then finally hands and feet. It sounds like your LO has sores in her mouth.

I was going to say HFM as well. When my son had it it first showed up in his diaper area, creases of his elbows and behind the knees where he typically gets eczema. The next day it showed up on his hands and feet. He never had mouth sores or a fever. It seriously looked like his skin was burned. It was so sad.

Hope she feels better soon!

@matador84: It was awful for my kids the second time. I hope she gets over it quickly! For my kids their mouth sores came before I saw other spots, but they seemed to heal first too. The not eating lasted 4-5 days, but we nursed around the clock, plus offered tons of other liquids. They did eat yogurt and smoothies when they were rejecting everything else.

@matador84: before I saw your pic, I was going to guess HFM. My kids had it for the 2nd time this fall and neither wanted to eat or drink from a cup. They only wanted to nurse. I'm guessing they had sores in their mouth and nursing didn't hurt as much as eating. The hand and feet sores popped up 3-4 days after the not eating started. I don't have experience with chicken pox, but the photo looks like HFM to me.

When I picked dd up from school yesterday she looked kind of ragged and had her fingers in her mouth, really weird for her. Didn't eat her lunch or touch dinner. Felt slightly warm around bedtime so I gave Tylenol.

Woke up fine today acted pretty normal but didn't eat breakfast, took about two bites of pizza at lunch and refused dinner. Has only wanted to nurse. Feeling warm again with red ears and cheeks. No symptoms at all, not even a runny nose. Call dr Monday morning or just ride it out? The not eating is what is worrying me most!
