Update.

We did paci on a string one night. As I posted above it was promptly pulled off and even after sneaking it back on her once she did fall asleep, it was then pulled off again, and we were into the same issues.

The next day (Saturday, I think) I took her crib apart and she napped on floor bed. A couple nights passed and I kept finding her sleeping on the floor (lol) so I put a bed rail along the one side (it's in a corner).

Last night was night #2 with the rail up, and she didn't wake once. HEAVEN.

She is now no longer having that time in her crib upon waking though, right out she comes....and quietly! She crawled into bed with me this am which was really nice. She used to wake any time before 7 and we'd leave her there til 7 (she was happy to hang out in there) but now don't have that, but I will take that over the wakings in the night! She has three paci's that stay on the mattress, she gets the concept that they don't come out, and I have actually noticed an improvement in her behaviour regarding the paci in other parts of the day, which I am thrilled about!!

Success......for now! Gosh knows there will be something else.

We put like 6 pacis in the crib. He throws a few and some fall, but there's usually one or two left to grab.

Honestly, I would probably move her to a mattress on the floor and see how that goes.

Have you talked to her about it? DS was taking the paci at nap and bed times but really didn't need it. DH could get him to sleep without it but not me. Then before one of his naps I told him he could have it if he wanted it but they are really for babies and he's a big boy. He never wanted it after that. I was shocked but I think they understand more than we realize sometimes. I think DS was almost 18 months. He is sleeping so much better now.

She's been down 5 minutes and within two had the part attached to her (paci on a string) pulled off!

Soooo?

....haha oh dear.

She's happy, but we'll see what the night brings. Might have to consider another tactic tomorrow!

@NovBaby1112: I figured DS would take one, but at 6w so far no go, had he taken one I would have weaned both later this Fall. He may still take it, mentally I don't think it's fair on her if he gets one and she doesn't given her attachment, but now that he hasn't so far..... more I don't know!

@Beebug: that's so tough! you poor thing :( Hmmm no advice as far as the paci goes, my LO always hated them...ughh, but when would you want to wean her off it? If the time frame is say, 6 months from now or less, I would just go ahead and rip bandaid off now so to speak, instead of buying things to make habit go on. But if you don't plan on weaning her for awhile, then it might be worth it to make it easier for her to find paci at night and hold onto it- if that is truly what is making her wake up...

Thanks all, I think it's just a matter of settling on the lesser of evils? Have to wean eventually, now or the fall perhaps, seems silly to buy things to keep the habit, but keep the peace...so to speak!

Ahhhh I don't know.

Not opposed to any option, just not capable of making a decision apparently right now.

I use breathable bumpers and plant like 6 pacis in the crib for my LO. he can always find one when he needs one. I'm not ready to wean, so I dont see the harm in giving multiple pacis at bedtime. We leave them in the crib, so they're only available at nap/bedtime.

I think your other option is to wean, if you're ready for that!

Oh dear! Just to put it out there, is it possible this could be a late 18-month sleep regression?

Anyway, is getting rid of the paci cold-turkey an option?

I'm so sorry, I have no real suggestion...I sympathize completely!

@Beebug: Oh that's a good point about the stretchy stuff in the crib. Probably not the safest! That's cute imagining her whipping it across the room too! My friends' kid uses one of the paci clips at night and they haven't had any issues, but I think he has realized that clip is the only thing that allows him to have his paci at all, so he doesn't mess with it. (They only let him have it at night now, but I don't know how they weaned him off it during the day!)

@Beebug: we also do paci clips that we attach to his pajamas! It's not long enough for him to wind around his throat. He has pulled it off and thrown it at times, but I go in and give it back to him once, and then that's it, he's out of luck. We did this a while ago, and eventually he fell asleep without it (shocking!) and the he never really did it again.

That's what I would probably do--although the "right" thing is probably to just paci wean, I don't blame you for not wanting to do it!

@twodoghouse: we have them, I just didn't think anything "stringy" (even though it's a wide strap) should go in crib?

I can imagine her pissy times she'd pull it off and whip it, lol.

Aw, poor C (and poor mama dealing with all the a
Wake ups too!). If you really think the whole issue is just losing her paci, can you get her a paci clip that clips on to her PJs? That way it wouldn't ever be further than a few inches from her. That's probably just a temporary solution if you eventually want to wean her from relying on the paci, but it might help you out in the short term! Good luck!

This is what I was thinking, although they come in all sort of styles: http://m.toysrus.com/skava/static/product.html?type=TRU_product_us&url=%2Fproduct%2Findex.jsp%3FproductId%3D17372886%26cp%3D2255957.2273443.3426509.3243655.24029516%26parentPage%3Dfamily&domain=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.toysrus.com

I'm ashamed to even be writing this, ugh.

My 20m old DD and her sleep is killing me, I'm in her room more times in the night than I am up with 6w old DS. Between the two of them, selfishly my sleep is pretty interrupted.

DD used to be a fab sleeper. STTN by 6m 7pm to 7am for the most part aside from a few changes here and there that went through.

Currently the paci is the root of all evil. I hate it, but appreciate it's usefulness at times. She no longer needs it for the suck, just in her possession. She will suck on it, lose it (falls through crib slats onto floor) and then I have to go in multiple times per night (5-10 on a "normal" night). Previous to late April she would go down without it and without it the entire night. She got sick, we knew #2 was coming and we caved to giving it to her more, I realize that's our fault, but right now she's not getting her best rest because of it.....and neither am I!

I am open to CIO

Do I put crib bumpers in there and then let her fend for hersel finding it, she will throw it the odd time at bedtime when she's pissy though.

Remove crib, mattress on floor?

Convert crib to next stage, she can get in and out and get it herself (not if it falls behind though). I feel nuts just writing that one, she wouldn't be getting it as going back into bed that smoothly, that many times.

What am I missing? What am I doing wrong?

Want to add she goes without paci when not sleeping totally fine with exception to Monday's coming home from daycare (extra tired/fussy) or when teething has been bad.

Daycare is done as of today, hence my timing, I didn't want to eff with her sleep (nap she gets paci) until I was her primary care provider.

Teeth. She's doubled her teeth count in the last 6w, felt this was worth noting, and our appreciation at times for the paci from saving us from the endless whining.

Help!?

That post just feels like a hot mess!
