Seems like her nap is at an appropriate time, but I still think you should aim for an earlier bedtime - 7 or 7:30 based on her waking up from a nap at 2:30. I read somewhere that the longest a baby should go before bed is 4 hours - we often go 4.5 hours or 5 hours though. It can take up to a week for any routine to stick. Have you tried CIO at bedtime? Gentle CIO? I don't think her nap is too long. I know many toddlers who take 1 nap and sleep 2-3 hours.

She sounds over-tired. Counterintuitively, babies need more sleep to sleep well, and if they're overtired, they'll night wake more. Ours goes to bed at 6 or 6:30 PM if she takes just 1 nap, and at 7 if she takes 2, and sleeps until 6 AM (total nap time is between 2 and 3 hours a day). She's 14 months old. Days she doesn't nap well, she sleeps horribly and night-wakes, otherwise she SSTN. Try moving your LO's bedtime up by 20-30 minutes each night until you're getting her down by 7-7:30 PM. At 20 months, your baby should be getting roughly 13 to 13.5 total hours of sleep in a 24 hour period, and about 11 of those should be nighttime sleep.

@Bao: I honestly don't know, she's with the babysitter, I know she eats lunch first when she is with my Mom. I've ask the babysitter for updates, but she hardly ever gives them
To me

Maybe her nap is too long, 11-2:30/3 seems a bit long. Maybe try splitting up her naps into two shorter naps or one nap and one rest/quiet time? Or move her nap back a bit so it's noon-2:30/3. Does she eat lunch before her nap then?

@T.H.O.U.: She wakes anywhere from 6:30am - 7:30am.

I've tried to no avail to get her to bed earlier.

My lo is up around six am and down for a nap by noon.

But she is up by three pm and goes to bed by 8.

So the longer stretch of awake time is in the morning.

It seems like maybe the issue with bedtime could be the awake stretch before bed is too long - 7 hours is a long time for a kid that age to be awake, I think? But I'm sure you've tried putting her down earlier...

That seems like a long nap. My daughter sleeps 2.5-3 hours at nap time and I was worried about that being too long and interfering with night time sleep.

Our lifesaver was the Leapfrog Scout dog. He loves to push the buttons and play with him, then he just drifts off to sleep. We had hellish times getting him to bed before that, I would sit in the doorway for an hour minimum just to get him to fall asleep.

@Kemma: I will definitely check those blogs out, thank you. She actually fell asleep after 15 minutes of crying at about 10:15 and slept all night long!!

I'm ok with CIO, she is not. She works herself up into a frenzy and it doesn't ever stop!!

I'm sorry that sleep is rough for you and your family, it's hard work when sleep is in short supply.

I'm not sure where you stand on CIO or controlled crying, but if you're looking for support with more gentle methods of parenting you could check out the Nurshable blog or the "Wait it Out" support group on Facebook.

Hang in there!

I'm going to lose my mind. She now only wakes up once at 1:30, and instead of wanting a bottle she wants to play or be rocked to sleep, when I'm really exhausted I give in after an hour and bring her to bed with us. This sucks. It's 9:30 and I'm trying to put her to bed early (most nights she won't even think about sleeping until 10-10:30) and she is pitching a huge loud screaming hysterical fit. I can't take it anymore!!
She only takes one nap at 11 usually until 2:30-3 so I don't thinkit's a nap issue. What is this all about? Maybe I'm destined to have terrible sleepers. My oldest had colic til 9 mo which resulted in co-sleeping for 4 years, ack!!!!
