When my 1st son dropped his nap, it was after a few months of napping every 4 days. He did those shenanigans before he turned 2 but kept napping until 2.5 or so

Thanks y'all! Looooong wind down this afternoon (like, way longer than I thought necessary) and she only putzed around in her crib for about 10 minutes. Win!

Keep trying with the naps! My LO went through something similar at 23 months, he was resisting nap and even crying at bedtime too (which was not normal for him) but it resolved after 2-3 weeks.

We had a period of nap skipping around that age. Eight months late and she's still taking 2.5-3 hour naps everyday.
Hope it passes for you too!

@hilsy85: I'm glad you don't think she's dropping her nap. I definitely am going to leave her in her crib but it kind of sucks that she is jumping around and making noise when I need to be working! I'm scared she is going to figure out how to climb out one of these days while I am on a call. And I'm not sure how great it is for her to not fall asleep until 3pm. Sounds like it is better to put her down closer to 1:30 and spend some time winding down.

@SweetiePie: No, I think there could be some truth to it! I am going to try to start the whole nap routine earlier tomorrow (we will have to book it home!) and see if that helps in addition to more wind down time.

I only have an 11 month old, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Maybe since she went down late she was overtired hit the "tired but wired" stage and just had a hard time falling asleep. Of course that theory only works if she's been consistently going down later than usual.
But I don't even know at what age the overtired thing stops, so feel free to ignore me!

I also doubt she is dropping it at that age. We went through a phase just after 2 where he would skip a nap for a few days in a row, and then nap again. As long as she is content to hang out in her crib til she falls asleep, I would stick with it, and maybe put her down at 1:30 to give her some time to wind down (my LO definitely needs that).

@rattles: It really doesn't matter when I put her down! I almost wonder if it is because her naptime has pushed TOO late. She's in that overtired, wound up zone maybe? Before we moved about a month ago she was napping at 12-12:30. Now it is about 1pm or later. Yesterday I didn't put her down until almost 2pm because we were out and about. Today it was 1:30pm. It's been the same thing every day no matter the time, and she's been upping the ante every day!

@Foodnerd81: Thankfully (knock on the wood) even a super late nap doesn't really interfere with nighttime sleep - though she has been going to bed later anyway. It just stays light here so long that we have been eating dinner later which pushes everything else later. Besides, if she wakes up from her nap at like 4:30pm she eats a snack and then she isn't hungry for dinner until 7pm!

I'm with you, though. If I am on my game and we get home from our morning activity by noon, I still have to almost rush her through lunch and then get her up for her nap right away for her to bed in her crib before 1pm.

I think maybe when we first moved she was just extra worn out from everything so she would just crash... and I have taken that for granted. :bummed: Now that she's adjusted, maybe I need to make sure we wind down more for her nap, even if that means she gets in bed 15 minutes later.

Mine went through the same thing at that age. I suffered through fights for a couple weeks and then moved naptime and bedtime both back to a half hour later. She is still napping at 2.5.

I doubt she is dropping it. Probably just a phase, but yeah I would add some wind down stuff. I know what you mean about prolonging it- I don't know how people can do anything in the morning, lunch, and still get their kids to nap before one. Or maybe mine just eats lunch slowly? We have to do at least one book and one song before laying her down, often a couple of each unless we are late. But still some days it takes her a little while to fall asleep and I start to worry towards the end of the nap that it will affect nights sleep. Mine is 24 months and has been napping about 1-3 lately.

For the last week or so, LO has been fighting her nap for a while. It started with 15 minutes or so of talking to herself and rolling around when she used to be out in a couple minutes. Each day it has extended more and more and it is stressing me out!

Yesterday and today it took her over an hour to go to sleep. She played around in her crib most of the time, only crying/whining briefly off and on.

Today was pretty nuts - she was jumping up and down and banging on the wall - and if it weren't for a work call I had to take, I probably would have just thought that she wasn't going to nap and gotten her up. But while I was on my call she just stopped jumping around, laid down and went to sleep. This was at almost 3pm! I put her down at 1:30 - about a 1/2 hour after her usual nap time because we were running late getting home. She is still asleep now at 4:15.

Does this mean she is going to drop her nap soon? She still sleeps for 2+ hours once she goes to sleep!

Another theory is that our mornings get her too amped. We usually go and do an activity, come home and eat lunch and then it is right to nap. She used to be wiped and just lay down with one quick song but maybe she needs some winding down time reading books or singing? It's just already so late in the afternoon (1pm usually) that I don't want to prolong things. But I guess she's doing that herself!
