@kjpugs: The site won't even let me click on the link because of my foreign IP  But I did find this review, which didn't seem to rate it very well. It looks like it's the same price as the 23andme test, but maybe Ancestry has a bigger database? http://youngandsavvygenealogists.blogspot.se/2014/07/my-ancestrydna-review-cautionary-tale.html

@SugarplumsMom: A LOT of adoptees that are in some adoptee FB groups mention it.

@SugarplumsMom: Well I probably have a different view on it. I was adopted and used it to learn about my heritage. That's predominantly what DH was interested in for himself, that and the me+him genetic stuff for having kids. That being said if you can only get that stuff then maybe the ancestry.com version is just as good but cheaper?

@kjpugs: Do you think it have been worth it without the health related results?

@aprild: I'm a US citizen as well (but live in the EU) and I'm kicking myself for not getting it sooner.

I did it back in 2009 or so and then DH did it in 2011 I think? We were thrilled with it especially having both our results. I'm not sure what's changed since we ordered it but I was very pleased with it (and still am!)

I did the 23andMe test back in 2012 before the FDA banned the health related results in the US (I'm a US citizen). Anyway, I thought that was the most interesting part! The test will say to what degree they are certain you have these characteristics or traits, so you don't have to wonder if something is considered accurate or not. My husband did the testing too, and we enjoyed comparing our results. It also gave us an idea of things to watch out for. My test said I was at an increased risk of gallbladder problems. Well a year later, I ended up needing surgery to have my gallbladder removed!

I'm thinking about ordering this and noticed the huge price difference between the US price (which ships internationally) vs the EU price (almost double). I've read that they are no longer allowed to provide health related results in the US but it is still available in the EU and Canada. Is it worth the extra money to get the health related results?
