Is this a waking up at night issue or a going to bed issue? I seem to remember my first suddenly not going to sleep. I read that there’s a sleep regression related to testing boundaries at that age. I told her “ you are playing tricks. It is night time and time to sleep”. I stayed consistent for a few weeks and it passed.

Exercise seems to do nothing helping my kids to sleep, but it's a hot mess if the AC is not working or their room gets even a little too hot... So maybe when things cool down a bit it will help too. No real advice but solidarity...

Our 2nd went through a TERRIBLE sleep phase at both 18 and 24 months. At the two year mark she was fighting naps like crazy, but still needed them, so it was exhausting. The bad news is it lasted a couple of months, but the good news is it did get better and she started napping again.

One thing that actually surprisingly helped was moving her out of her crib and into a regular bed. We moved her at 26 months, and she did sleep a lot better and was more willing to lie down.

I’m so sorry! I wish I could give you better advice. She just turned three a few months ago, and rarely naps anymore, but she does sit in her room and play/read by herself for quiet time.

@agold: it’s awful, solidarity mama! This last kid has aged me so much ...

I am really hopeful it gets better at some point. My three kids were all different sleepers but it does seems to get better when naps are out of the picture.

Following because my 23 month is a terrible sleeper. He’s cutting molars so that’s my current excuse. He wakes anywhere from 1-3 times a night. Has about 1.5-2 hour nap and in bed about 7.

My first DS was a terrible sleeper until around 2.5. He’s never needed tones of sleep and now at 7 sleeps about 10 hours a night.

My girl is 26 months and her sleep has never been good. She did great for a small while between 18-20 months, but then the great wave of sickness hit my house between 20-23 months and sleep was terrible. It was great from 24-26 months and then the last week has been bad again. I blame teething, mental development, etc., for a general sleep regression.

I'm keeping her schedule the same. One nap a day around 12 or 1 (she only naps for one hour by her choosing; not mine). And then bed between 730 and 8.

She's now waking up once anywhere between 1030 and 3. If i'm lucky I can get her back down. But then she's up again at 550am. And no way jose in our house is anyone up that early anymore since she was born. I'll be catching up on my sleep until I die because of this cute girl I have. Please God, I hope this passes soon. But I'm not dropping nap or changing anything in the meantime. Good luck to you. This sucks terribly.

It seems like most kids even out in sleep around 2.5 matter what you do or don't do. But I would focus on a rock solid, consistent bedtime.

If you had sleep trouble around this age, did anything help? How long did it last?

I think it’s a phase ... maybe teeth related ... although she has never been a great sleeper, it’s been terrible lately nap and night. She is sometimes on a great schedule but of course pandemic times aren’t helpful. She definitely doesn’t have high sleep needs and I’ve debated dropping her nap to every other day. We live in Texas so it’s hard to get enough outdoor exercise time in summer and we’re trapped in a small house due to Covid the rest of the time. I know more exercise would probably help. There’s really no end in sight to any of that, since big kids will start school virtually.

Maybe I just need reassurance this too shall pass ... our AC has been broken for a few days and everyone is a (literal) hot mess!
