I've been waiting for this week and now that it's here, I'm relieved - although not as much as I thought I would be. I think every day and week that goes by will get better - especially after we do our childbirth class. Is it silly that I don't want to waste my money on the childbirth classes by going into labor early? (Obviously I want baby in there full term for his health too.)

I was relieved but I also was in a major car accident around that time. Even though the ER fetal monitor and ultrasound showed a heart beat and that things should be ok...I was having a good amount of bleeding from the impact for a week or so. I didn't feel relaxed until she was born!

After having a threatened miscarriage at 8 weeks and then told by a dr I would probably just have to "wait the pregnancy out," I was a mess for months! 24 weeks was a good time for me...but even still at almost 28 weeks I get freaked out if I do too much or don't take it easy enough.

Honestly, for me weeks 23-32ish weeks were the worst because all it meant was she had a chance of surviving, but not a good one, and if she did survive, her chances of having really lasting, very serious disabilities/birth issues were so high. That was the worst part of the pregnancy for me; I was fine first trimester and fine once I was well into the 30-weeks. (sorry to be a thread downer).

I didn't even realize viability was 24 weeks. At 24 weeks I just kept thinking of that intern on Grey's Anatomy and telling baby to stay cooking for longer!

I just made 24 weeks last week and it didn't really relieve me because the chances are so low, but I still was happy to pass that milestone anyway! I know that's totally contradictory, lol!

i was totally happy about hitting the milestone BUT i also knew how vital it was to keep my baby nice and secure inside me till at least 37 weeks. i think thats the thing. a baby born premature will survive maybe but with a lot of health problems. every week it gets easier but when i thought i went into early labor at 26 weeks i was very scared. i think the closer we get though the better, for sure!

@Mrs. Jacks: oh no, I didn't think you were judging! no worries. I created another thread about perusing ultrasound pictures, which DH and I were doing last night and came across from preemie photos of 24 weekers..it was so, so sad. I mean incredible to see how much of little people they were, but so sad to see all the tubes and wires :(

I just hit second tri and thought I'd feel some relief from the worry. Nope. Now 24 weeks is my goal. I feel like once I hit that mark, some relief may come.

I think I will relax a *little* at that point. My next door neighbor had a 24 weeker and she's doing really well now at 3 but it has been a tough road for them and not something I would want to go through. I'll hopefully really relax closer to 35 weeks. A friend of mine just had a 35 weeker who is healthy as a horse despite being a tiny little buddy.

@Mrs. Jacks: Oh I'm definitely not wanting her to *come* early, just feeling better about if she did - versus say, preterm labor a few weeks ago. Does that make sense? Lol maybe I have to figure out how I word things better..eek. I'm a total foot in mouth person.

YES. After contractions at 22 weeks, I was absolutely relieved to hit 24 weeks.

@MrsJacks: Ditto. My first volunteer job ever was in a NICU . . . it was a real eye-opener.

I was terrified! I would never wish a 24 weeker on anyone. Having said that, we were NICU geeks, so we all celebrated when we hit 24 weeks as a rite of passage.

I hit "viability" this week, and I am so excited! However, everyone I tell says "well, you shouldn't want to go early."

Well..obviously! But I can't be happy about the fact that if she comes from now on, she has a better shot than she might've 2 weeks ago?

Is this something that only parents find an exciting milestone?
