@MamaPhoenix: you are so brave! I know how much of a role thyroid plays and I am glad you feel you made the right choice. Try to be kind to you as you heal and get regulated. Don't worry, LO adores you and you are doing the right thing for her by caring for yourself

@MamaPhoenix: I am thinking of you and hoping you are on the road to a full recovery soon. I can't even imagine going through thyroid treatment with a LO - I feel like becoming a mother totally amplified my emotions - and I know how much out of control thyroid hormones can mess with a persons emotional/mental health - stay strong and hang in there!!!

When I was in the hospital my LO barely noticed I was gone and had a blast with my parents. I was relieved she was ok but a little hurt too - and she even said to me a few times "mama go bye bye to the hospital" but I know it was just her little 2 year old self trying to process everything. And this continued while I was at home on restricted activity. Finally when we got back to our usual routine did our relationship return 100% back to normal. It's just their way of trying to cope with losing you - she didn't forget you and she will be your best little buddy in no time. She's doing her best to get through your absence.

I am thinking of you!! Hang in there!!!

@MamaPhoenix: I was offended when DS1 took my 2 week hospital stay super well also. It just means they are young, naive, and flexible!

Hope the hormones calm down and you start feeling better soon.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the love
It's been rough. I'm healing and slowing getting myself back together. I'm feeling the depression sitting there....hiding in the corner waiting. This is an emotional event. The thyroid plays a roll in every cell in my body. Without it I've kinds gone into shock. I have a lot of things going on in my life that cause me pain (mother that caters to my younger sister and her kids and forgets me and my lo are alive) when I need someone she's never there. For the most part I'm pretty strong and don't let it get to me. Sometimes though I cannot help it. Right now is one if those times. The Dr told me that it's going to feel like PP all over again. Because of the surge of hormones after the surgery. I've been a bit of a mess. I'm happy one minuet and crying the next. My poor Dh I truly know this man loves me. I have not been able to do much for my lo. Dh has been amazing but it stings a little. Before the surgery I was off work for a year with her. I was the primary care giver. She wanted me all the time. I am so great full Dh and her have had this time to bond, but I can't help but feel shoved to the side. She's having a blast with daddy and I feel forgotten. I worried she would forget me. I was gone 3 days. When I came home and saw her she cried and so did I.
As far as my physical health. I'm still stiff and sore in the neck. I've started synthroid and cytomel along with calcium and vitamin d supplements. At least until future blood work confirms my blood calcium levels have stabilized. The doc said my thyroid was enlarged and one side was extremely diseased. I had doubted if I had made the right choice in choosing surgery. After hearing this news I felt relief. They sent it off for biopsy. I have another check up in 7 days and should hear something then. I have noticed that my last menstrual cycle had ended just after surgery and now I've been spotting. I do believe that it's the hormone surge. I know we have a long journey a head of us when it comes to trying to have lo #2. Your thyroid plays a big part in the ability to get pregnant. For now I just take it one day at a time.
pic below is one week post op.

Thank you much for sharing your journey on this as I may be looking at having a similar procedure done soon so I have been following. (I have a healthy thyroid, but a nodule the size of Kansas!)

Damn, someone got vigorous with the steri strips!
Good luck with your recovery. I had a throidectomy in 2009 and had pain for probably 2-3 days - quite manageable!

I'm still alive! It was a "battle zone" according to the surgeon. They did end up severing one of my parathyroid glands and had to implant it back into the my neck muscle. Because of that my calcium levels have dropped and they are keeping me here for a bit longer. I'm not in much pain they've got me all perked up. Drainage tubes have been removed this morning as well. I'm very tired. Feel like I've been hit by a bus. I really really really miss my little girl. Yesterday/last night was my first time away from her.
Picks of me below before & after. I'll update more as I know more.
