I think it's pretty normal and they usually figure it out. DS is pretty good with pronouns except when he wants help he says "I help". I know you're not really supposed to correct, but I'll gently ask if he can say "help me". Now maybe 75% he gets it right.

My son was still saying things like "hold you!" when he meant "hold me" at that age. He's exactly 3 now and it was maybe a month or so ago that I noticed he was using the correct words all the time now.

My son is 3 next week and says Her is going to work. Instead of She is going. I think it's normal.

Sounds normal to me, but every kid is different. My son did this until about 3, but my daughter figured out pronouns right away.

We have a slightly different issue, at 2.75 years old: he refers to himself by his name, ie in 3rd person, and refers to us as mommy or daddy etc instead of you. His speech therapist said to make sure we use I and you, but that otherwise it's pretty normal. So just keep modeling correct usage, it should sink in!

Very normal. We never used baby talk or simplifies things with our very verbal DS. But still, he referred to himself as "you", etc for a while. Finally, we started doing that thing so many parents do-- referring to ourselves in the 3rd person, etc. And then he understood. We just had to model the words he should use, not the words that were correct for us to be saying. He figured it out quickly from there.

my 23 month old is super verbal but mixes up pronouns all the time, like she often asks to be picked up by saying "mama carry you" because she has heard me ask "do you want mama to carry you" in the past and she's repeating it back

I also have a 2.5 year old who is very verbal. I don't remember her ever using pronouns like you or him/her inappropriately, at least not on a regular basis. She did gradually evolve from referring by name third person to first or second, like "is mommy happy" vs "are you happy?"

When did your toddler/preschooler start speaking in the first person?

DS1 is advanced verbally other than that he switches between speaking in the first/second/third person. It's usually second or third person but he does use I and me and mine daily. Usually it's like "you dont WANT to go to bed!" at bedtime etc.,

Anyone else? Thoughts?
