@Ajsmommy: I think my next plan of attack is to drop the bottle when we move him to a bed. Seems like a good transition into being a “big boy”. He’ll be 3 in November so the bed will be coming soon. Just trying to milk the crib as long as possible so we can continue having good naps.

@delight: omg.....samesies!! LOL. My bubba loves his "bobby" and he gets so happy and joyful when he sees it! ahhahahaha I keep asking him if he wants it and he always says yes, ha. I feel like I am enabling him bc he's my last baby and I want to keep him that way! But I KNOW my pedi will get on me to stop. I think I somehow managed NOT to mention it at his 2 yr appt.

I guess i'll just have to stop it at some point. IDK.

ETA: my dd weaned herself off the bottle before she turned one!!!

@Ajsmommy: omg really? How do we stop the bottle?! Mine loves it so much. DD never had a bottle so this is new to me. When I even suggest we forget the bottle he gets so sad. I love my cuddles too.

My 2.5 year old is like this as well. Dinner is always hit or miss and more often than not he eats nothing. He has a huge breakfast and lunch and still has a bottle of milk before bed :meh:

They’ll eat when they want to is what I actually subscribe to now. I just offer food a lot and try not to stress. I also offer milk after dinner at bedtime and if my kid(S) don’t eat anything or aren’t feeling great I give them one of those pediasure type milk drinks.

My kids are weird though and they actually eat the least at breakfast and they usually won’t eat for at least an hour after they have woken up. Dinner is often their biggest meal.

Yeah, he's fine. My 3 year old eats good for breakfast, usually ok for lunch, and sometimes ok for dinner. Sometimes she takes a bite or two and that's it. She's fine.

Our pediatrician actually warned us when our daughter turned two that her eating might be erratic. She said it’s completely normal, she won’t starve. Just offer them healthy meals like normal and if they skip one be comforted knowing it’s because they don’t need to eat.

My kid at that age and sometimes even now at 3.5 eats barely anything for dinner. It seems to be the toughest meal for toddlers. I don't stress but I do not offer junk food or desserts if he doesn't eat dinner. I also try not to give him snacks in the afternoon, it helps him actually eat but sometimes it backfires when he gets hangry

Sometimes E at 21 months eats a bite or two of dinner and other nights she eats practically as much as I do. I dont worry about it. If you are worried about genuine hunger have a specific healthy snack time like 30 min before bed and offer something you know he'll eat but is healthy.

Yup, my 2.5 year old skips dinner often or will only eat a few bites. He eats the most for breakfast, a pretty decent lunch and snacks at daycare. He's also 99% for height and weight so I'm not worried about it at all. He eats when he is hungry! I just make sure to pack a really healthy lunch so I know he is getting his fruits and veggies.

Short answer yes, ignore it and let him not eat. Save the food until bedtime in case he asks to eat later.

I have a 4yo who routinely (but not always) refuses dinner. Been this way as long as I can remember. He actually almost never asks to eat anything later either, he’s just not into it. Overall he clearly eats plenty because he’s 90+ height and 80+ weight percentiles. Just look at the overall day for nutrition (or even week).

So my 2.5 yo ds has never been a good eater but he usually always eats at least one thing I place out for dinner however last night and tonight he has flat out refused to eat anything.

He is acting completely normal.

Not teething.

Pooping and peeing normally

Daycare didn't mention anything out of the ordinary.

He DOES want a popsicle though....but I'm refusing bc I don't want to start something bad.
.
But I'm feeling terrible that he's not eating dinner.

Should I just assume he's not hungry and he'll eat when he needs to???
