@yellowbird: haha! I Looove this idea.

@Smurfette: @Cole: thanks for some great idea. I'll have to drive a few miles to the clubhouse so Im hoping to limit how much stuff to bring.

@illumina: I will have to look into the princesses bc I know K loved that at the last party too. But they also hired a DJ and a dance floor.

@aegie: love these ideas too! Will have to check with the association about chalk bc that sounds great!

a bubble machine, so kids don't fight over it. and separate smaller bubbles for them.

I fear markers + kids because it's just going to be ugly. You can buy those foam frames and have each kid decorate them. Take a polaroid picture of them and you tape the photo to the back of the frame. we did that at our church's christmas party and it was a hit. You just need a few cups of glue and chopsticks for kids to use to apply the glue and they added pom poms, jewels and other stickers to their frames. Kids loved it.

Also, if you have concrete space, maybe chalk?

But really, you just need balloons, pinata and some balls. kids will run around and play no matter what!

I know you said you weren't too fussed on getting entertainers but my nieces just had entertainers for their parties (a magician for one and some people dressed as Frozen characters for another) and they were amazing...they did music/dancing/parachute games etc. with the kids and weren't particularly expensive. The best part was my SIL and family could enjoy the party without worrying about entertaining etc. themselves.

Craft station to decorate musical instruments. Then, do some call & response type stuff when everyone is done or let them just free play.

Parachute would be really fun for the kids- they run under and get tossed on top.

If you go with one entertainer what about getting a kids music teacher? We have a few around us that will do an entire 30-45 minute class and bring props for the kids like scarves and bells. By the time you do the class and food that might be all you need. You could get inexpensive instruments as favors and they could play with those too.

Another idea would be to set up a few stations, maybe a collage station where they could glue things down, a coloring station, a play dough spot etc. You could probably find an idea on Pinterest for a craft that could double as a favor too.

If you have enough stuff at home to make this work you could also set up your own indoor playground. Put out a tunnel, a little slide, blow up tons of balloons, put out a bowling set, make hopscotch with tape on the floor, make a balance beam with tape on the floor. You could lead the kids through it as a obstacle course with music and then let them free play. A parachute and freeze dance could round out the activities nicely.

Bubbles
Maybe ribbon wands that they can wave around when dancing
We just went to a party where they decorated foam princess crowns(top hats for the boys) with the foam sticker.
Musical instruments
Art stuff-get a big roll of paper and tons of crayons

any sort of not super messy art activity?.....what about a ball pit?

I had the same concerns for E's second, so i am having it at a playground. Not helpful for you, I know....

I'm doing a bubble machine and water table for LOs birthday this weekend and hoping that's enough. I have play doh as a backup.

@shopaholic: we did not have a kids party for 2, but did LO's 3rd birthday at a park. The kids really liked bubbles and we thought about sidewalk chalk but didn't end up bringing it. That might be enough for some entertainment. For inside, maybe a few little crafts they could do with parents if they wanted?

We did 2 hours for the party and with food, pinata, and cake, there wasn't a ton of "down" time so I didn't feel like we needed a ton of stuff. Good luck!

Planning K's 2nd bday party and kind of stuck on activities for the kids. It's at a clubhouse and won't be able to have a jump house. The last few parties we went to (older), there was face painting, balloon artists, etc. I don't really want to hire entertainers, but I suppose if price was okay, I'd pick one (and not 3-4!) I got a piñata.

What do you suppose would be good for mostly 2-3 year olds and mostly indoors or some concrete outdoor space? Need suggestions! Thanks!
