@mrsjyw: omg!!!!!!!! SO CLOSE!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

for me, I had my membranes swept probably 5 or 6 times and lost my mucus plug over a period of two weeks... big chunks almost every day... 2.5 cm dilated for weeks but still never went into labor on my own :( LMW was super crazy stubborn.

@TurtleDoves: I think the second one (after my bloody show started) was what sped it up - she felt the bag of water so I figure thats pretty similar to a sweep. within an hour of leaving, my water broke, lol!

@TurtleDoves: I don't remember exactly.... I think it was probably a week apart. And they say if it's going to work it's going to be within 24 hours.

@TurtleDoves: I had two sweeps, at 40+@ and 40+5 and they didn't work. I ended up being induced at 40+6 but was able to have a vaginal delivery. I also really wanted to avoid a csection and my doc talked with me about whether my stats were favorable for vaginal delivery--they have a thing called the bishop score that can help you decide. One way or another, safe and healthy LO is the bottom line!

@TurtleDoves: sorry! I didn't really consider sweeping to be an intervention before my experience. Next time around, its definitely something I would avoid doing...at least until later. Everyone is different though. A lot of people labor normally after having their membranes swept.

@TurtleDoves: I ended up on pitocin until I was at the maximum dose, labored for 18 hours, only got to 5 cm, and ended up with a csection. It sucked.

@sorrycharlie: dude, I was hoping you'd weigh in. Your labor progressed so well and quickly after the sweep...like 48h after the sweep you had a baby!

yup, i think. my first sweep was monday 9/24 and she did a sweep. i didn't notice a change til thursday when i had my bloody show and a hella lot of discharge.

they bumped my appt from friday 9/28 to that thursday because of the bloody show, and she didn't do a sweep but did check my cervix and felt the bag of water, and at 4:50 my water broke at home.

I went from 3 cm (at 3 pm) >>> water breaking at 4:50 >>> 6 cm (at 7:30 pm) >>> 10 cm (at 8:30 pm). Got epi, labored down, started pushing at 9. Born 9:27!

That happened with me too. My doctor kept telling me that she didn't think she'd see me, and she did two membrane sweeps. Neither worked. But mine was early enough that I still had time to go into labor naturally and I did.

Hope yours works!

I had my membranes swept at 39 weeks and 40 weeks. At 39 weeks, I was 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. At 40 weeks, I was a "tight" 4 cm and 50% effaced. My water broke at 40w2d but I never started contracting on my own, so I don't really know how I feel about membrane stripping anymore.

ETA: I also tried all of the "tricks" during those last two weeks. (Sex, walking, spicy food, chinese food, eggplant parmigiana, etc.)

With DD, I had my membranes swept at 37 and 38 weeks; I went into labor on the day of my 39 week appointment. I was 1+ cms dilated after the second sweep.

I am 39&4 today and got my 2nd membrane sweep at my appointment earlier. My doctor said she totally expects to see me in labor by Wednesday night (tomorrow).
Well, thing is: she said that last Tuesday too after my first sweep.

I have an induction scheduled for 40 & 3 but she said I won't make it until then and I kind of hate her for it because she is just getting my hopes up majorly!

I want to *not* have an induction but I also want to be done being pregnant so....what do you ladies think my chances are?

Notes: 2nd membrane sweep today, 2cm dilated, more than 50% effaced and "very soft and very low", mucus plug has been confirmed to be gone since 38&4. And I am walking 60+mins a day.
