DD1 was overdue, but I didn't mind because I wasn't particularly uncomfortable. And then labor started -- I had sh**ty prodromal labor for 2 days that was painful & consistent enough that I couldn't sleep or really do anything but wasn't progressing. Eventually they admitted me & started pitocin, and it was still almost 12h more before she was out! I was exhausted for days after she was born.

DD2 was born 2 days early, and she was in my arms 2.5h after the first contraction. I was shocked to find out I was at 10cm when they checked me at the hospital, didn't even have time for an IV let alone any meds, and took 2 pushes. I felt great immediately.

DS was born a week early and was a happy medium -- 6h from first contraction until baby was out. Time enough to get to hospital and get drugs for GBS+, but not enough to get very tired.

So there is hope! :)

I have felt some of the same fears. My first labor was 80 hours (about 60 hours active labor). I am pregnant with #2 and doing the hypnobabies home study course. I think listening to the tracks is really helping my anxiety levels. There is a specific "fear release" track too.

My first delivery was an induction which took almost a week. Awful. My second delivery was quick and amazing! My second pregnancy flew by because I was so busy with my toddler. Good luck :goodluck:

I had short labors but LO1 was born on 41+2 and LO2 on 38+4. Both were unmedicated natural labors.

LO1: 40w 5d, 51 hours of labor.
LO2: 39w 4d (or so), 2 hours of painful labor. I had four hours or so of timeable "sensations" that didn't hurt at all.

@lilyofthewest: I definitely had some hang ups from my first labor going into #2. I couldn't make myself make plans for LO1 or write a birth plan. I also was in total denial that I was in labor with LO2 (partially because it didn't hurt for a while when LO1 hurt so bad the whole labor, and partially because it was so fast). I was worried I would be sent home when I got to the hospital but I was already 10cm having the baby.

I didn't go overdue but My first labor was 18 hours (ending in a c section because I was too weak to continue).
My second labor was 4 hours.

I was induced with my first so I can't really compare.... But pushing wise, first time took me 2 hrs ad 2nd time took me 20 minutes!

Mine doesn't touch yours BUT:

First: 18 hours real labor and three hours pushing.
Second: 8 hours real labor and 20 minutes pushing.

The second was noticeably easier due to not being as long. Like the pain was the same level, but I wasn't as exhausted.

Mine were so different. First was born at 41 weeks exactly, 30 hours of horrible labor & pushed for 2 hours. Second was born at 40w exactly, only about 5 hrs of labor with painful contractions (in labor longer than that but felt good) and I pushed 5 times (10ish mins) & out he came. In fact the nurse told me to not push until a doctor came cz baby's head was practically out. Such a difference--I was really worried too but it worked out great.

My water broke at 39 weeks with both. My first was about 17 hours from water breaking to when she was born. My 2nd I woke up 4:15, noticed I was wet and 6 hours later she was in my arms.

Not as long as yours, but my first labor was 21 hours of active labor with 30 ish minutes of pushing. My second was about 3 hours of active labor with about one minute of pushing. The pregnancy itself was very different as well, so you never really know!

I delivered one week later with my second, but neither was overdue. And labor was pretty long both times, but at least 4 hours faster the second time around. Delivery was what caused me the most anxiety about getting pregnant a second time and why I put it off as long as I did lol.

My second was slightly less overdue (four days vs nine days) and my second labour was a "natural" twelve hours vs a very medicated 30ish hours.

I'm planning to schedule my IUD removal to TTC #2 sometime in the next few weeks.

I can't even get pregnant yet and I'm already nervous about pregnancy and delivery. Specifically that it seemed like they lasted FOREVER. I didn't deliver until 41w6d. And I did so after more than 41 hours of labor, about 26 of which was "active" labor, and somewhere around 7 of which was pushing.

If you had a long pregnancy and long L&D with your first, was your 2nd any more reasonable?
