I struggled actually, I thought it would come back faster than it did! After a few days I was good, but I couldn't remember how much she was supposed to be eating, how many wet/dry diapers, ect. I will say I was a lot more relaxed the second round and that helped my sanity!

@mrsjyw: I really hope it comes back, because I don't remember a THING. I can't even count how many baby care books I read before DS1 arrived and this time, I haven't read up on a thing. I keep thinking I should brush up and check out some of my books, but it just doesn't happen. Hopefully it comes back or else I'm in trouble lol

I was able to really enjoy and savor the good parts, instead of being stressed over everything. You still need to get to know him, but the snuggles were so much easier to enjoy and just ignore things on that To Do list.

You will be back to knowing how to take care of the type of newborn you previously had, you just might not have the same kind of newborn! The basics (diaper changes, exhaustion, bouncing, holding the baby) come back and are great, but some stuff is different. I nursed my first like a champ, she was the best nurser EVER, my second was horrible (like almost labeled failure to thrive bad) and I was thrown through a loop over that. But, I think it is easier the second (or third or fourth) time around!

I can't say anything about labor because I had c sections. But taking care of the baby was so much easier. And I didn't worry about anything because I knew it would pass.

It totally comes back. Seriously, so much easier the second time!! It came back for DH too. The shushing, rocking, burping a newborn - by the third time around, he was better with newborns than I was.

@Adira: Totally agree. I had really forgotten how painful labor was...

The rest of it came back naturally. I had so much less anxiety this time around because I felt like I knew what to expect, and also that things DO get better-even when it doesn't feel like that at 2am ;)

More prepared and knowledgable to how to care for a newborn. We started the Harvey Karp Happiest Baby stuff immediately versus in the throws of colic.

Labor-it came on so quickly, almost wasn't ready for it. My l&d with DS2 was fast. Recovery's been easier too. Overall, better than the first time, still tough, but know the ropes of it.

Yes and no. I knew what to expect about how babies needed to be cared for, but most of the stuff that worked to calm DD1 didn't work on DD2, so there was still a learning curve, but not nearly as steep as with the 1st baby. Also, it was just different, because you can't spend all the time with the baby like you did with your first.

I hope so. I feel like I have blocked out a lot of the traumatic c section recovery and the early days of breastfeeding.only 11 more weeks until I am forced to remember.

@mrsjyw: Laboring, I had forgotten a lot. My contractions started off so much quicker and stronger the second time that I was in denial that it was even happening. And then when I was laboring at the hospital, I kept asking my husband if the contractions were going to get worse. And then I was in denial when the urge to push came. I was like "Oh, maybe that's what's happening..."

But actually caring for a newborn and breastfeeding - that was like riding a bike! So so so so much easier the second time around!!!
