As long as 2t pants are long enough, I'd go with 2t in pants. My 2.5 year old is tall and skinny so length can be a problem but I really prefer his pants to fit in the waist because otherwise they get in his way and inhibit movement. I've also started buying adjustable waist pants only so we can get a little more length but still keep them up.

Shirts I'd let him grow into though. My kid seems to outgrow shirts wayyy faster than pants.

Same problem here! I just bought 3T and fold legs/arms if needed.

It doesn't help you much now but I've been holding 2&3t up to each other when I buy stuff, with so much of it the difference is tiny and then there are odd ball pieces where the difference is huge! Girls and boys stuff runs so differently too!

My friend with a tall thin son just sews a few stitches in the back waist band of his pants, because things that are long enough would be too big in the waist. He is 3 and can still wear 18 month shorts but they would be way too short as pants.

I bought c a bunch of 3t stuff last year and it was too big but I refused to stock up on things that fit perfectly, since I knew she would outgrow them soon. So she wore too big dresses for a couple months and now they all fit perfectly this year. But I think girl clothes are more forgiving that way.

@Bluebonnet: he's not yet but I am hoping by the time he is 3 he will be! Good point though, cause that will free up a lot of butt space

@Smurfette: @Adira: @gingerbebe: @SweetiePie: Thanks ladies! I really miss the days where their clothes were going up by increments that were easier to judge!

@psw27: I'd buy 2T clothes for now and save the 3T for later.

The T sizes tend to last a year on my kids (they stop growing as much).

Also, not sure if LO is potty trained or not, but no longer wearing diapers changes the fit of pants. Another something to keep in mind.

@psw27: Our boys are almost exact same (we are 35 inches and 29.5lbs) and GAP 2T is already on the bigger side for him when it comes to pants (waist and length), but not so much that it looks ridiculous. I would definitely return for 2T because I think it'll fit well and last a while.

I guess I should add I think he has a longer torso and shorter legs, so 24 month pants from other brands do still fit him nicely. But NOT 18-24 month at gap. That is too small now.

I personally have always found Gap sizing to run big for my tall lean guy. I pretty much only buy him leggings or jogger or skinny style pants or those that have an actual drawstring I can adjust because I HATE saggy bottoms.

I'm waiting on some clothes I bought for this winter, so I'll let you know how they fit.

Once they hit 2, they stop growing quite so rapidly, so you might be surprised at how long the 2T will fit him! I'd just keep the 3T stuff for later and buy some more 2T stuff for now.

I never go by the size chart. I just buy what fits. It sounds like the 3T are really big, so I would just hold on to them for next winter and get some 2T for this winter. I don't find GAP to run big. But I do think different brands fit my LO differently. So maybe GAP doesn't work for your LO.

Ok bees, just need some opinions here. I feel like my LO is between sizes and it stinks!

My LO is 2, he's tall 36 inches and about 30 lbs. Since he hasn't been in pants since June I went out and got him a bunch of stuff at Gap over labor day when it was 50% off, etc. but for some silly reason I bought him 3T -- thinking that 2T and 18-24 months were basically the same and his 18-24 month stuff was way too small. Well, the 3T pants are super, duper long and has major saggy butt since he's kind of on the "thin" side. SO, do I return all of it and get 2T even though he is on the end of the size chart? Do I just hold onto it and get him other 2T stuff for a few months? Have him wear it all huge? (I don't really like doing that if the butts are saggy). His 2T stuff that he does have fits him perfectly right now... but how long does that last at this age? Does Gap stuff run big and I should just get him a different brand?

Why can't they make 2.5T? :silly:
