@LemonJack: @CatchAFallingStar: The overlapping seat belts are an issue for booster riders and adults too, not just car seats.

We just had our third, and had to get rid of our RAV4 unfortunately. There wasn’t a safe way to do it. Luckily we planned on getting a van anyway, but our original plan had been to keep the RAV and get rid of our other vehicle.

How old is your oldest? If they are old enough to go into a booster you could check to see if that would work. Unfortunately our oldest isn’t at that point yet.

I believe 2006 was the start of the severe seatbelt overlap in the rav4. It basically makes it a four seater vehicle with five seatbelts. You can confirm by taking you car seats out, buckling the seatbelts, and looking for the overlap. It wouldn’t be prohibited in your manual because Toyota didn’t start officially recognizing it as an issue until years later. It’s a really unfortunate design, though not specific to the rav4 - many other vehicles have the same problem. Toyota did address it, and fix it, in the new 2019 model. Though the backseat is still quite narrow, especially the middle seat. So even the new model wouldn’t be the easiest for three across.

I had a Rav 4 and got rid of it for the same reason. The manual stated that it didn’t allow for three in a row. Mine was newer though, 2013 or 2014.

I had a RAV4 and had to get rid of it before baby 3 because Of the bad overlapping seatbelts in the backseat. The car manual also said it didn’t allow 3 car seats due to the bad overlap. I’m not sure if yours has the same issue (seems like different years are different designs), but here is some more info on it. Good luck!!

Does anyone have 3 across in a Toyota RAV4? Ours is older, 2006. Right now with the two seats we have, the space between them would not accommodate another seat. Maybe if I got all new seats? My kids are almost 5 and almost 2 and we have a newborn coming in late March.
