@mrswin: Thank you for sharing and congrats on your pregnancy! That's great your RE found something that works! Interesting to think that trying to create too many eggs at once could result in lesser quality eggs though I could understand that.

At this point with 5 embryos left I think it makes more sense to get them tested rather than spend more money on transfers with possible abnormal embryos. It will cost more to go through these embryos than to do another retrieval.

It never occurred to us that we would need to do another retrieval since we went into this with 8 embryos and we just want 1 more child. I still don't love the idea of doing a new retrieval but I do think we would do one more if that's our best option.

I'm sorry you are having such trouble with the FET's especially having been fortunate enough to create 10 embryos.
In my case we never had enough embryos to justify doing the testing. My oldest daughter was from our first cycle (fresh transfer) but the two frozen from that same cycle ended in a chemical (blighted ovum) and a negative.
We did another full cycle that was a complete bust with the majority of the eggs retrieved too immature to be fertilized. We transferred one embryo on Day 3 and it was negative. The RE we were seeing felt like there was some sort of genetic issue but all the testing we had done didn't identify anything specific.
We decided to take a break and I started seeing a naturopath for some other health issues but she ended up putting me on an egg quality supplement along with B12 and a very high does of Vitamin D because my level was almost undetectable. Believe it or not after about 3 months on the supplements we ended up pregnant on our own  but that ended at 6 ish weeks in a blighted ovum.
The new RE wanted to try a monitored Femera cycle with an Ovidril trigger. His theory was that by trying to get my body to make large amount of follicles in an IVF cycle was resulting in lots of low quality eggs so he wanted to make fewer better quality eggs. Unbelievably I am 23 weeks pregnant right now from that cycle - more than 5.5 years after we started trying to have a second.

In your case I think you need to weigh the cost of the testing against the fact that you have spent $12k on failed transfers. Could the testing mean you will overall spend less at the end of the day by being able to focus on transferring only the viable embryos? If you found out that the rest of them are not viable would you consider another full IVF cycle?

@bhbee: Yeah that's what I'm thinking now as well. I can't necessarily say it was a bad batch as we did have success the second transfer, but wondering if only 1 or 2 remaining embryos are healthy. At least I hope at least 1 is healthy if we get them tested. We are paying fully out of pocket and just spent $12k on 3 failed transfers which gets me super annoyed as well.

My dr did tell me he has another young patient (I don't think I'm that young, but maybe I am in the RE world) that had a few failed transfers and got her remaining 7 embryos tested and they discovered only 3 were healthy so there's a good chance she would have gone through at least a few more failed transfers if she didn't get them tested.

Not IVF specific (we only did IUIs) but my RE told us that some couples just make a lot of non-viable embryos - we had 5 documented losses (and I think maybe more like 7 counting early chemicals) and they never found anything else wrong. He told us, play the numbers game (try and try again) or do IVF with testing. I think it might be worth testing if the chemicals are taking a toll on you. At least then you’d know if you’re looking at a lot of genetic abnormalities or something else and it might help decide next steps. Hugs this is a long hard road

@azbaby: I'm sorry you've dealt with failed transfers as well. My dr hasn't talked to me at all about my diet. I usually eat pretty healthy but can definitely cut out some sugar as I have a sweet tooth.

My dr doesn't suggest anything besides testing the embryos as he seems to think we have just been unlucky with them choosing unhealthy embryos. I think his thinking is that we had success with IVF before so we will again if we just keep trying, which I suppose could be the case but I dont know. I was 30 during my IVF cycle in 2018 so I assumed most of the embryos would be healthy which is why we didn't test at the time.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. We're trying to figure out our next step to grow our family too.
Has your Dr recommended any supplements or diet changes? My only successful transfer was after I ate lots of healthy fats( Salmon, nuts, avocados).

I know the infertility board isn't active at the moment, but I'm at a loss on what to do next.

I conceived our first pregnancy naturally, but we ended up having a tfmr as the baby was not healthy. We then struggled to conceive again (unexplained infertility) and did multiple failed IUIs followed by one IVF cycle which resulted in 10 embryos. Our almost 3 year old daughter is from that batch of embryos so I figured when we wanted to try for a sibling it would be simple and work quickly. Unfortunately I've now had 3 failed FETs while trying for a sibling. If anyone has any experience with something like this I'd love to know what you did next or would suggest. I'm devastated and worried we won't be able to grow our family.

As of now I'm thinking we should test our remaining 5 embryos even though it gets me nervous to thaw them to test them and then refreeze and then thaw again for transfer if any are healthy. I'm also going to ask to do an ERA. I did an endometrial biopsy to check for endometritis/infection back in Feb and that was all clear so I didn't see the need for an ERA since I've has a successful pregnancy with the standard timing. I really don't want to do another egg retrieval. Any other suggestions or advice on what to do next? I'm at a loss as this has been totally unexpected.

Here's my IVF history:
1 egg retrieval resulted in 10 embryos
Fresh transfer - chemical
FET - 3 year old daughter
FET - chemical
FET - chemical
FET - negative
