We had a 8 hour drive last Saturday with LO (she's 4m) and we did it during the day. Got up really early, fed her while DH finished loading up the car, and we were on the road at 5 AM or so. We stopped for breakfast and for a feeding, and then again a few hours later to walk around and for LO to get out of the infant carrier. So I think it overall took 12 hours, but she did great. For 3 hours, I would definitely wait for bedtime if you don't think it will be horrendous. I'm leaving at naptime today for a 5.5-hour drive. Its the best decision we made. We left home at around 8pm to avoid traffic.
