My 5 month old's naps have always been around 30 minutes. I've asked similar questions and can only commiserate. When I hear about babies that regularly nap 1-2 hours I just can't even imagine! We've only rarely experienced that- maybe 3-4 times. She sleeps well at night and never had sleep regression so I feel like I can't complain too much- ha!

I plan to try some sleep training after the holidays and see if she is able to learn to put herself back down. I'd say at your baby's age it's just part of life for now and if it continues like it has for us, to try some sleep/nap training when she's at a more ideal age for it (some say this is at 5+ months). I also hear as they get older and consolidate naps that the nap length increases. Crossing my fingers!

@paigeface hi, I was the one who just posted the thread a few weeks ago that @sweetiepie just linked to and I got some GREAT advice. @ sweetiepie wrote a great novel-length response !

My LO will be 4 months on 12/24. His naps are still kind of crappy but I'd say a HAIR better - we will occasionally get a longer nap. Unfortunately he's got some pretty bad reflux/stomach issues that I think are negatively impacting his sleep - he often wakes up and cries and then spits up all over the place. So I think the reflux is waking him up.

My 18 month old often gets upset when bathtime is over, and he's been like that for a long time. I can't do much about it! And regarding the short naps, I agree that a 3 month old's naps are still all over the place. While I agree with @sweetiepie's advice, my personal experience was and is that I tried to do everything "by the book" from a very early age, and I don't think it helped during the 0-5/6month age. I was very consistent with the nap routine, making sure I was home for naps, etc etc. Still, my LO refused to nap unless he was held, until he was about 5 months old. And since he's been in his crib for naps, I really don't have any control over how long he naps! Nap extensions never worked for me. I tried CIO for a few short naps and that is hit or miss. Even now, at 18 months (and one nap a day), his nap can be anywhere from 1 hour-2.5 hours. I keep everything the same, try to get him tired etc etc....and I have no control over it anymore. :)

Does he wake up happy after the 30 minutes? I hate to tell you that a 30 minute nap is very common at that age. DS1 outgrew it at about 8-9 months. But he woke up happy and just took a lot of catnaps throughout the day. If he's still grumpy than I would try to extend the nap if possible. The night sleep sounds awesome!

@paigeface: also, the crying when they get out of the tub will come and go! My son went through another phase of that in the last month, then all the sudden one night was fine with ending the bath. I made a routine out of it. We sing the clean up song and put his toys away. Then we say bye bye to the bubbles and the water. So maybe that helped? He now has warning that the bath is ending rather than abruptly taking him out.

I normally wouldn't just redirect you to another thread, but I posted, like, a novel there and I don't feel like typing on my phone :silly:
In short, it takes work and dedication to get to longer naps! Usually they wake at the 30 min mark but definitely aren't done napping, they just need help connecting sleep cycles. Google info on that, you'll find a ton!
And Dr Weissbluth's book will also help you a lot! I use it at every age and every stage to continue good sleep with my son. We are going through the 2-1 nap transition right now (15 months), which is really stressful, but I know that consistency will help get him where he needs to be. And Weissbluth. And a few helpful bees here ;-)

@paigeface: my LO throws a fit every time she gets out of the bath. I know she isn't cold. I think she just loves her bath and hates getting out of it. DH and I haven't found anything that gets her to not cry when we take her out so we just hurry through putting her diaper, lotion, and sleeper on so we can get her swaddled and she can start nursing, which is the next step in her bedtime routine.

Hi ladies! Hope everyone is doing well!
My LO is 3 and a half months old and is the best night sleeper! (he sleeps 12-13 hours a night!!!) but THE worst napper during the day. His naps last 30 mins or less lately and I can't get anything done during the day at work. :crying: is it because he's a good sleeper at night?

Also, did anyone else go through the dreaded end of bath time where your baby threw a fit after getting out? I tried a warm towel after the bath and then straight to bed but he still wasn't too happy.

Thanks for any tips mamas!
