So now that I've done some reading about it, I think it might be over tiredness, as he has had a few busy days with lots of visitors. Anybody have any advice for getting him to sleep once he's already overtired? There has to be a way to break this bottle cycle!

@kiddosc: thanks! I didn't think about a sensitivity or different reflux meds.

@sarahbs: I was really bad at seeing sleepy cues for my LO. By the time he was yawning and rubbing eyes, it was too late. I always just swaddled him up and started getting him ready to sleep around an hour and 15 minutes. Obviously, sometimes it worked better than others.

If he's still spitting up a ton, you may want to talk to your Dr. again too. He might have a sensitivity, he might need different reflux meds, or you might actually be feeding him too many ounces at a time. Ugh, like I said before, trial and error... super frustrating.

@kiddosc: ah I should have mentioned that the pacifier is part of the problem! He used to take the pacifier really well but he's started spitting it out when we put it in, and he isn't happy til he gets the bottle. Usually once he falls asleep, I can replace the bottle with the paci and he'll keep it.

I'll have to watch his awake times more closely, sometimes he's awake for 2 hours or more but it's so hard to get him to sleep before he gets overtired! And sometimes he doesn't seem that tired!

Have you tried introducing a pacifier? It sounds like he needs to suck to soothe himself to sleep. It took our LO a few weeks to figure out how to use the pacifier correctly, and we needed to try a few different ones to find one he liked. If he's sleeping longer stretches at night, then feeding every 2 hours doesn't sound unreasonable. I knew a baby who fed every 2 hours until he was 7 months old. Unfortunately, so much with little babies is trial and error :bummed: How long are his awake stretches? I think around that age, my LO was a bear if he was awake for more than 1.5 hours still. Being overtired really can throw them off so much.

Baby D is 14 weeks old and the past several weeks, he has been excessively fussy. The doc says he has some reflux issues so we have been giving him Zantac, but it doesn't seem to help the crying.

The problem is, he can't fall asleep for naps or bedtime without a bottle in his mouth! I EP, and he eats about 30-33 oz a day. He eats 4 oz bottles every 2 hours or so, but sometimes he's hungry after just an hour and a half. He spits up a ton, so I am wary of feeding him more at a time.... but every 2 hours seems really often at this point!

He also had been doing 8-10 hour stretches of sleep at night but now he's waking up at 12:30 STARVING. We have to keep the bottle in his mouth in order for him to fall asleep. His naps have also gotten shorter and it's a struggle to put him down.

I guess my question is, am I feeding him enough? Should I ignore all the spit up and just feed him more at a time? Anybody else EP that can comment on how much their baby got at 3 months? It's maddening to try to figure out! I worry that maybe he is just overtired too. Anybody else have a fussy 3 month old?

Any advice would be appreciated!
