@Bookish: yup absolutely banging face in boob. She seems a little better today but had two marathon sessions this morning- thankfully calm not angry!

@mrskc: yeah I do the "big Mac" smoothing the boob and just jam her on when she opens wide enough. It's hard to remember I not bring boob to mouth, only mouth to boob. I think I do need to hand express a little bit but I hate wasting it- and making a mess!

@Foodnerd81: totally a 3 week growth spurt. Ours was really rough. It's probably what the others have said, that she's probably just getting hangry. I'm sorry, hang in there! During LO's most recent growth spurt she would forget to open her mouth; it was like she was banging her head on my boob. It got better over the last couple of days.

@Foodnerd81: yes there is a 3 week growth spurt! I felt like the first 6 weeks were just a constant growth spurt! They do a lot of growing during that time. If I was super engorged I would hand express a little milk before trying to latch him. Also, like Hilsy mentioned, getting her to calm before trying to latch might help her to latch better. I also did the cross cradle hold a lot. I would make a hamburger shape of my boob with one hand and hold the back of his neck with the other and pretty much shove my boob in his mouth.

Hmm maybe it's due to the 3 week growth spurt and her being just too hungry/frantic to focus on a good latch? I know it's tough, but I would really try to make sure that she latches well...will she take a paci for a minute? Or suck your finger? Sometimes that calms them down enough to be able to open their mouths wide enough.

I do bet if you can get through the next few days/week, it will improve though! Especially as her mouth gets bigger.

We have had an ok latch since early on- not perfect but never terrible. Lately though its getting harder and harder to get a decent latch. Baby is three weeks old ad now she isn't opening we mouth wide enough and its like a battle of nerves to see who can wait it out longer (she wins sometimes at night). Any IDE why its staring to get worse instead of better? This combined with cluster feeding and crying all evening is resulting in a cranky sore mommy.

It's worst when I'm engorged and she is extra hungry but its kind of bad all the time lately.
