So glad this question was asked! Our #2 is due in December, right when DS1 turns 3. We live in Iowa in a small very walkable town and I do jog, but I we didn't even use our stroller at all in the winter the first time around with DS1 - not until he was about 6 months I think. We just did a LOT of baby wearing since it was way easier, or we drove. We aren't really mall people and live an hour from one anyways, so that's not even a thing for us. Right now, we have a Bob jogging stroller, and I think we'll just keep that until #2 is here and then figure it out then.

Ours will be 3y3m apart and we are not getting a double stroller. Our 3yo hardleybuses the stiller anymore. We also have a couple of different strollers that each could push one, am ergo and a moby wrap.

it really depends on where you live and your lifestyle. we live in the city and easily walk 5-10 miles on a weekend day, and no way our 5 year old could do that.

but in the suburbs, we definitely wouldn't need a double stroller. it really matters how far you have to walk regularly.

My first two are now 3 and 18 mos and I'm wondering where we're going to put my 3 year old when our new one comes this fall - he loves the stroller that much. It totally depends on your child and what you use it for. We have a baby jogger city select and it is so handy, we use it daily, but if you plan to exclusively use it for taking walks or running around your neighborhood it might be worth getting a double running stroller for the steering ease. We live in an old neighborhood (early 1900's) and the sidewalks are not great, not all the corners have ramps, and it isn't always easy to maneuver the city select up over the curb/cracks when 2 kids are in it. (It is no problem with one.)

Our kids will be almost exactly 3 years apart and we are not going to bother. Our daughter already doesn't like the stroller and even when we have it she walks more than she rides in it. I thought about getting a double for things like the zoo but if we're that desperate we can bring two separate strollers or rent a double at certain places. I don't think it'll be an issue, but I guess it depends on your kid!

My older lo is 34 months and still loves going for walks in the stroller. But we didn't use our double stroller much until lo2 was a bit older because it was usually easier to wear him at the park when he was tiny. I would maybe recommend waiting and seeing what your needs are when the baby arrives unless you come across a fantastic deal.

Ours are going to be 2.5 years apart and we just bought a City Select double. I do plan on baby wearing but we also take a lot of walks and I want the convenience of being able to plop both kids in the stroller. DD#1 enjoys walking but she also likes riding in the stroller. Plus, we plan on having three kids with hopefully a smaller gap between #2 and #3 so we thought we might as well splurge now.

We are also going to have a three year gap (likely 34-35 months) and I'm not planning to get a double. We live in suburbia and hardly use the stroller now unless we are going to the zoo or something like that. I may end up buying a friend's used double (city mini) for my mom who watches my LO while I work. If it's a day that he's not in school and she has both LOs it might be easier for her to use the stroller for errands and keep them both contained (although LO1 is not usually one to run off, etc.). If I decide we do want a double or something similar, I can always get the extra seat for our B Ready or a board to attach to it.

Mine will be exactly 3 years apart and since #2 will be born in the fall, I am hoping to get away with baby wearing her and having older LO sit in the stroller until the spring. At that point hopefully he is trustworthy enough to walk/use the glider board consistently. I would really prefer to not get a double. We do a lot of walking as well.

I'Ve got a similar situation but with n 18 mo age gap. I only use my stroller for jogs and to walk to the far park (a little over a mile). DD walks everywhere so i figure for the mall and schlepping my stuff, a single is enough for everyday, so long as i keep a carrier for the little over.

I've decided to invest in a double jogger for next summer though since I know it'll be my only form if exercise for a long time.

I liked having a double, mine are 2.5 years apart. There's a lot we can get to in about a mile but counting on my older one to walk, do the activity and walk back was just too much to expect. We live in a fairly hilly neighborhood too so scootering and biking take a lot of effort as well. It also let us go for jogs when one parent wasn't around, which sometimes was good for nap time. My LO just turned 4 and I'll still use it for jogs and trips to the playground for awhile.

Mine are 3 years apart and we didn't get a double. Instead, we got a buggy board for the older LO to ride on. We live in a major city with no car, so we walk everywhere. Often though the older LO will ride his scooter and we don't use the buggy board as much now (4.5 yo and 19 months).

like mrsjyw, ours will be about 2.5 apart and we aren't going to get one. It will be fall /winter here for LO2's first six months so I don't see many walk to the park trips or other stroller activities. If I take the two somewhere I will probably do ergo & single stroller. And then once it's nice again I'll either keep doing ergo or if my husband is joining stroller for LO2 and wagon for LO1. I think we can make it work until the point our older wants to walk most of the time and/or both can ride in the wagon at the zoo,ETC.

Ours will be just over 2.5 years apart and I'm probably not going to get one. I am a wah/whom, I rarely use a stroller except for th zoo or mall (sometimes) and for a few of our trips sprinkled throughout the year. Ds1 rides his bike on our walks, already likes walking over stroller time, we live in a cold climate state and we have an umbrella single that we love. So I plan on baby wearing the new babe as much as possible, and maaaaybe invest in the new dbl version of our umbrella that is supposed to come out late this year for summer 2016!

We did. Ours were 31 months apart and now they are 3.1 and 6 months. I use the double almost every day for our run and often for walk to the park. I would rather get to the park and let the older have more time to play than have him drag out the 10 minute walk. The 3 year old lasts a good 45 mins without asking to get out. Today he wanted to be in it at a parade. He was tired.

We hike a lot and 3 miles is absolute max for our 3 year old. He's pretty slow that last half mile or so. We did not buy a double stroller though and they are 26 months apart. I wore our youngest for much of the first year and used the stroller for our oldest. Our oldest hasn't been in a stroller since he turned 3, he wants to walk on his own.

We use our double stroller all the time (several times per week) with our just turned 3 yr old and our 17 month old. We use it as our main means of transport when we're going anywhere around town (3-4 miles round trip) and also use it when we're going out on outings. I'd rather have it and use one empty seat as a carryall, rather than use our single and have a whiny 3 yr old who wants to be carried because she's tired!

I think I would just wait and see when you have another how mobile your toddler is, etc. I waited to see if I would need it, and I haven't had a moment where I needed it yet.

I think it depends on your toddler and lifestyle. Mine is a runner and we live downtown. There is no way it would be safe for her to walk or ride on a board while she thinks it's funny to try escape, so we had to get a double. But every kid is different.

Hmmm. If you baby wear you will probably opt to wear the younger one for quite a while. Double strollers are just so cumbersome. Mine are 20 mo apart and we rarely use our double and only for long walks. and that wasn't even the case until my younger one got to almost a year. Just depends how keen you are on wearing the baby. I babywore a LOT more with LO2 than with my first.

My kids will be 33 months apart (hopefully) and I'm wondering about investing in a double stroller. I get the most use out of my stroller with my two year old currently walking around the neighborhood / walking to parks that are further away. I don't really use it otherwise. I feel like I want another jogging stroller to keep this up -- I got on 3 mile walk with him about 4 times a week which I imagine will be too much for a three year old.

Would your three year old allow you to put him in a stroller for an hour of walking around?
