Update- DH and I had some talks with him and he’s been sleeping since. If he does not sleep he’s been quiet. . We praise him a lot for this behavior and it’s been a win! 🙏🏾

@cake2017: ha! Then it's a teacher competence issue and not your problem, although it's great that you're backing up the school at home. If the school pops any additional pressure on you maybe ask why it's only an issue with subs. I know our subs received little to no training, so...

I’m right there with you!

Last year his teacher you to sit next Time him during nap time and eventually he’ll fall asleep. On days she wasn’t there it was always an issue. It did feel like we were focusing on it too much though and tried to talk about it less/bring less attention to it.

He’s in a new class this year and we’re having the issue again. Like you said, do to coved regulations (not mixing classes, having a smaller staff) there’s no separate room for him to go to.

A couple weeks ago it was so bad they called and had us come pick him up. (The director tried to calm him down and he started tried to spit, hit, kick her.) Dh when he picked him up he had a huge smile on his face excited he got to go home early. So frustrating

Thankfully things have been better since then. I think part of it is he starts feeling tired and then gets up and runs around to stop himself from sleeping.

@cake2017: This is tough! Maybe more than one option, something most quiet during the first half, then something else after. Maybe sitting close to a teacher.

@MrsSRS: Thank you. He slept today and I spoke to his teacher who stated he’s fine with her but not quiet when a sub comes in to relieve her for a break. we are going to continue to work on it

As a daycare provider I am baffled. I feel like they should be able to manage. As I type that I realize I'm the teacher the other teachers go get when they have a disruptive napper and need backup so I guess I'm biased. Still. This shouldn't be your problem.

I would do a punishment at home. When you pick him up from school and he was disruptive=punishment. Each day he is good-small reward. I know that would work for my daughter.

@cake2017: The only thing that helped was when he was able to play outside for an hour with the non-napping class. But that only happened if they had space so maybe 1-2 times a week, if that.

One of our friends' kid also didn't want to nap. They ended up getting him a pair of headphones so he listens to songs while the other kids are napping...

@KT326: Do you recall what worked during that time for you?

DH and I are thinking it’s for attention. He is so excited to tell us that he was disruptive. There have been changes due to covid and we are thinking maybe more time with DH and I may help? I don’t know...@HappyBaker: Thanks! I don’t know what they may allow. I sent a tracing book and it worked for awhile and now he just scribbles and was found drawing on their floors. He’s so good before and after nap time and sleeps here at home...

I don’t have any solutions but I just want to say my oldest was the same way in his 4’s room. He was so disruptive and I constantly got phone calls about it. But they only had one room of non-nappers and it was full. I can’t even imagine how it would be now with all the restrictions in place. Hopefully it is a quick phase and they can help figure something out!

@cake2017: what about a small bin of little Legos? As long as he’s past the age of trying to eat things ha, my boys would both do literally anything for Legos, and their daycare gives the older crew a pencil case full of them during rest time. Or maybe an audiobook with headphones somehow? That is so hard, good luck!

That’s a long time for a three year old to be quiet - is there another room, maybe bigger kids who don’t nap, where he could go?

Help! Sent a lovey, book, paper and crayons- nothing is working. nap is about 1.5 hours and he’s telling, screaming, moving furniture etc. Staff said they are going to brainstorm. We’ve spoken to him and he repeats and says exactly what he needs to do(I need to be quiet, I should rest etc) but doesn’t do it. He comes out and excitedly states he was disruptive at nap. We’ve tried ignoring, addressing the issue and nothing seems to be working. I don’t know what to do- any suggestions?
