Dude, there is no way I could survive that. We have a door monkey on her door so she can't get out on her own unless we let her out. We push the clock and trying to get her to play in her room until the clock goes off. She's old enough to know better. We had to CIO a bit once we got the door monkey/clock so she knew we were serious.

Also agree that 6 is really early for a 3 year old. When did she ditch her nap?

@sorrycharlie: oh she can leave her room? Ugh. Lock on her door? 😁 My friend did that and my cousin currently does it with her son. Maybe she would flip out though? Ugh. Hugs and good luck.

I would try 7 solidly for a week and see what happens. 6 is awfully early for a 3 year old. My son would flip his shit if we ever locked him in so I wouldn't do that. I would do an ok to wake clock though.

We're right there too, though not every night. Probably 2-3x/month but oh boy, it's tough.

This morning I let him pick a movie and I slept while he laid next to me and watched a movie. It worked out okay, until he decided he needed a new movie every ten minutes and I woke up to a mess of DVDs. I woke up every time he switched movies, but I didn't realize how many he'd pulled out.

Sorry, no good advice :(

I would move bedtime back an hour or so. If she's been going to bed st 6, how early has she been eating? I'd push that back, too, to make sure she's not waking up super hungry. I would supply her with water in case she gets thirsty, and really push the OK to wake clock. Changing routine can take time, but at 3 she should be old enough to understand the clock. Good luck mama!

@sorrycharlie: So, I am a firm believer in early bedtimes. My son goes to bed as early as 5:30/6pm depending on how naps went. BUT I did just recently read that once they hit about 18 months, the earliest bedtime should be 7pm. I think it was in Parents magazine? Or maybe it was the babysleepsite.com. I can't believe that for once I'm saying try a later bedtime! I would also try to do a nap, it might be hard to bring it back but napping can happen up to 4/5 years old so maybe she actually does still need one?
And agree that I wouldn't go to her unless she is clearly distressed. My son occasionally wakes at 5/6 am and unless he's really upset I will not go to him till 7am.

(Full and fair disclosure, I only have a 16 month old so no direct experience with 3yo sleep. Just sharing what I've read as I'm obsessed with his sleep and try to read ahead).

Good luck and hugs, I can't imagine the exhaustion you feel!

If it was me I would say move bedtime a little later, use the clock, and don't go in until morning unless you suspect she REALLY needs you. She should be old enough to understand that she can't come out of her room until the light changes. The clock helped us a lot with this and eventually ended the 4 am wake ups for us.

So many hugs momma. So many hugs.

@pwnstar: @BandDmommy: she's been going to sleep at 6 since she was an infant - it's very recent (like, 2 weeks now) that she's been pulling this middle of the night nonsense :meh: before this, she slept 6 pm-7am til DST, then started waking at 5 am. if any of that makes sense? lol

also...the last week or two, she's also had days where she naps and goes down between 7-830 and still wakes at the same times. it's insanity!

@Mrs. Champagne: she gets in our bed. "I want a snack. I want to watch a show. I need to watch a show. I need to watch a show. Can I have a snack? I'm staaaarving. I need fresh water!" hahaha! I try to ignore her but man. she's relentless!

I would try a later bedtime for several weeks before concluding that she won't wake up later. Good luck!

6 is super early, sounds like she needs a nap. Can you try doing quiet time in her room?

The fact that she passes out at 6 sounds to me like she's over tired and needs a nap, which is probably why she's not sleeping well at night.

so obviously, my daughter can't tell time. so in her point of view, it's dark when she wakes up (at 5 am, usually on a good day..) but it's also dark at 2:30 am. so, why should she believe me when I tell her it's night time and to get back in bed?

I'm losing my mind. We've tried the ok to wake clock but are breaking it back out tonight. I am SO TIRED. between my one year old waking up anywhere from 2-4 times a night, and my oldest now waking up and staying awake during the seldom times I get to actually sleep, I'm becoming very beastly.

tips?! help!!! I'm so tired of this. it's ridiculous.

*she does not nap anymore
*we put her to bed at 6 pm, she goes willingly and passes out immediately. she wakes at the same times if she goes down later.
