I think the nap might be the issue, If I were you I would try to drop it. A child that age should get at least 6 hours of wake time before bedtime. With a 6:45pm bedtime that means the nap needs to end at 12:45pm. If you're going to stick with the nap I would try to move bedtime later, something like 8/8:30pm, and make sure that nap is over by 2pm.

Well, we turn back the clocks soon, so maybe it will all work out ;)

This actually happens to my kids, i feel like they're getting up earlier than normal, but then when we switch back the clocks it feels about right so. I've just been thinking they're naturally adjusting .

While every kid is of course different, that sounds like a lot of sleep time for a 3 year old. We dropped my 3 year olds nap at 2.5yo because his night time sleep went down hill. It worked like a charm. He still does “quiet time” in bed for about a hour every day with books. I would guess the first few days will be an adjustment and cranky, but after that his body will adjust and make the night time sleep longer to compensate. My son was so much more pleasant and we’ll rested once we dropped the nap.

@cake2017: You need ~4 hours between the end of the nap and bedtime. When my 2.5 year old naps (rarely) we wake her by 3:00 and put her down at 7. I would move bedtime to 7/7:30 if you want him to nap, or cap the nap even earlier.

ETA: With no nap, my 2.5 year old sleeps 6:30pm-7:30am and it’s glorious. She still does quiet time in the afternoon.

Honestly for a napping 3 year old that bedtime sounds way too early. I would wake up by 3pm most definitely but I would also push bedtime back. When my kids were 3yo and still napping bedtime was more like 8pm.

I believe 3yo’s need 11-13 hours of sleep in 24 hours. So if he’s napping 2 hrs, you’re looking at 9-11 hours of nighttime sleep. He’s currently getting enough sleep in 24 hours, you just need to adjust the bedtime to get your desired wake up time.

@cake2017: I know sleep needs vary as do wake up times, but my 2.5 year old would not be able to go to bed that early, especially with a nap. I would play around with the bedtime slightly to see if that helps. I feel like we have had to tweak our bedtimes and bedtime routines a bit with each new phase!

My 3.5 year old just went through this. We got him a hatch light and can set the color to whatever he wants at night then it goes off at whatever time I set. It was a nightmare before this. But we also had to drop nap and move his bedtime to 7:30.

There is a stoplight clock on amazon that my kids have found easier to understand than the OK to wake clock. Red light means stop and green light means go.

I do think that 6:30 seems like a very early bedtime. My 3 year old goes down at 7:30.

@bees_knees: Any suggestions to which one? I thought about this...@JJ2626: Yea he is and honestly he needs the nap however I just told DH we will end it at 3 pm(starts at 1pm) but takes him awhile sometimes to settle and rest). They have quiet time at school too and he takes it most of the time but not the full two hours. Do you think ending it by 3 would help?

I’d get an Ok to Wake clock! I think he’s def old enough to understand—my boys started using them at 2.5 or so

LO goes to bed (in bed/crib) at 630/645pm- he doesn’t fall asleep until 7 or later sometimes.

Waking at 5/515/530am....

Solutions?

When the time goes back will this be a bigger problem?

He will sing and move around and start to make noise etc- I go in and tell him it’s still night and to go back to bed but he doesn’t-

He use to wake at 6/630.... we prefer that -

Solutions? TIA
