Thanks guys :)
I've been reading there is a two year regression so I'm thinking that's what is going on. He is sleeping way more at night then ever before this week. But still struggling to go down. Hopefully it's over soon!

DS' sleep got weird right before he turned 2 last summer. He woke up super early, fought bedtime (needing to be settled multiple times), and had numerous wake ups during the night. Naps were never affected though for us. Things went back to normal after a few weeks. Hopefully it's temporary for you too!

I think it could be attributed to teething and language explosion, but who knows!?

Ds1 is 26 months and acting like he wants to drop his nap recently. We are lucky in that he doesn't cry, he just messes around in his cot for 1.5 hours! At the mo he is only napping around 50% of the time. I am just being very consistent, still putting him down just the same as always - I hope it's just a phase and he will move past it!

Have you thought about trying an ok to wake clock? We don't use it at naptime but it's been great with my sons early morning wake up. You could tell him he doesn't have to sleep but he needs to stay in there and try to rest til the clock changes?

@Mrs. Champagne: ok, yeah I totally get that. If I'm lucky enough to get a long nap, I end up waking LO up so he will go down for bedtime too. But to answer your question, he goes down at 12:30. I"m trying to stretch it to 1 since he's starting daycare/preschool soon. Anyway, keep us posted! Hope it's just a phase.

Maybe a phase be we are in it too. We are 5 days shy of 23 months. For the last week and a half we have had 45 minute naps- exactly. We had 1.5-2 hours previously. Nothing has helped. ? 2 year molars. We have also had some early waking and night sackings, and whining, tantrums and very clingy. Fun times!

@Mrs. Champagne: They have a questionnaire with all kinds of questions about sleep (nap and night). Then someone reads it and does the assessment. I like that it's a real person and not some automated questionnaire.

Not recommending a specific article but here is a sleep website I love. I refer to it for everything sleep! Use the drop down menu to search free resources by category.
http://www.babysleepsite.com/category/toddlers/

Also, for $45, you can let them know what your sleep issue is and they will send you an assessment and plan. I figure that's a relatively small price to pay to see what they have to say and they do have more in depth consulting for more money. I've never used either service but their free resources have been a great help and comfort!

@BabyTsMom: about 1-130 we put him down. I don't want to do too much later or it seems like he struggles to sleep. What time is your nap?

So sorry you're dealing with this! I don't have any advice but hope it passes soon! My LO has also never been a stellar napper and has had a few 45-60 min naps as well. (also on one nap). Fun times! What time does he go down for nap? Maybe he needs to go down a. little later?

@edelweiss: thanks so much for responding :)

Nights were horrible and now they are fine, other then he freaks when we leave his room.

I'm hoping it's a phase that is over soon - 30 minute naps are just not fun haha.

my LO went through a weird sleep phase around that age. he usually napped pretty well but all of the sudden was playing around or crying. and nighttime, oh nighttime...that's another story. i was terrified that he was dropping the nap. we kept up with the routine and after a few weekends (he was still napping fine at daycare), the phase ended and he went back to napping. it is rough though.

SOS!

For the first year of my sons life he napped for 30 minutes on the dot. It was brutal and exhausting and we tried every single thing and nothing worked. Once he was 1 we switched to one nap and let him CIO if he woke too early and it worked. He's never been a great napper. But 1.5 hours or so. Sometimes 2. In the summer when we could get him outside all morning he would nap 2ish hours. Most recently his naps have been an hour an 10 mins.

Now he is 23 months. The last couple weeks naps have been a shit show. He cries going down (always always has. It's brutal) and now is up 30 minutes later. On the dot. Giving me flashbacks to his first year. Except now it's only 1 nap a day instead of multiple. We tried CIO and it worked a few times but now it's not working at all. Literally 30 minutes on the dot from the time he falls asleep, he starts screaming his head off.

Any tips?? Google is only bringing up infant sleep when I google 30 minute naps.

Thanks for reading! Also he did have a 15 minute nap one day and he was miserable, so I don't think dropping naps is the answer. I hope not anyway.
