@Maysprout: Thanks! It does make me feel better to be reminded that if I decide not to or forget something, someone can run and get it at the store. Reminds me that forgetting or leaving something behind isn't the end of the world :-)

I didn't. I figured someone could go out and run to the store if need be and baby came early. And for the first part you're just in hospital clothes anyways.
I traveled with my husband for his interview about 4 days before giving birth (within a week of due date) so he could be there if baby was born, then I had a hospital bag.

@SweetiePie: I would definitely install the car seat. Probably the only thing I was so glad to have was my own pillow, which is probably unnecessary for most people! But the boppy can totally double as a comfortable pillow.

Can I say that I'm jealous that you're hanging out on a beach soon? And Yay babies!!

@MrsF: Thank you!!! Yeah I plan on bringing Boppy (my sister insists on this) and a going home outfit for baby and that's mostly it. I might pack a light diaper bag just in case we do have to spend some time in the car on the way home. But I plan on using a lot of what the hospital provides, per the advice of many experienced mamas :-)

@LovelyPlum: I'm going to try! Did I mention that we'll be in a house with 12 adults and well be the only two without an LO yet,? There will be 8 kids under the age of 4. Hahaha. Lord help me. ;-) I love kids but that's a lot of kids for a 9 month pregnant lady.

I'd bring my hospital bag and leave it in the car (I delivered at 36 weeks, so I'm extra crazy!). Honestly I didn't bring much for baby to the hospital. We used everything that the hospital provided, plus I think I brought a going-home outfit for her, the boppy, and a couple of nursing sleep bras. All newborns really need are blankets, hats and diapers (all provided).

Have a great trip!

@sungirl: This! That's why at a minimum I'll have it packed and ready at home. The thought f telling my husband what to bring for both baby and I makes me feel panicked haha. He's amazing and would want to do everything right, but it just seems like it would be hard to remember where everything is and explain what I need efficiently. I like to feel in control. My family isn't near by either so I can't even rely on my mom or sister to help in a pinch like that.

I'd bring whatever I planned on having at the hospital with me and I'd also be doing a little research in case I couldn't get back into Manhattan in time. I tend to prepare for the end of the world scenarios, though, so take my two cents with a grain of salt!

Like someone else said I was going to bring the car seat when I traveled 3 hours away at 38 weeks but forgot it. Nothing happened with me. But we were just away with friends and her water broke at 32 weeks and she had nothing with her. Not a big deal when she got there but tough telling her DH what to go home and get.

I have heard that FTMs do overpack so I am trying to pack light for the hospital. I keep stopping to ask myself how likely I am to really use something before I add it to my list.

I would probably just bring the carseat and maybe records. I probably wouldn't pack anything else, but that's coming from a 2nd timer that went overdue with #1. I may have had a different answer the first time around.

I would have the car seat installed regardless as it's better to get that done when you're not in a rush and my bag would definitely be packed. However, whether or not I would bring my bag all depends on how far away I lived from the hospital and how much room I had in the car. I don't think I used anything from my hospital bag while physically in labor. I take it back, I wore a pair of flip flops that I brought (induced in November in Chicago) so as long as you weren't too far away from the hospital, it would have been easy to have someone get my bag.

@MrsTiz: Ditto to everything! I gave birth at 35.6 weeks and it came as a MAJOR surprise. I didn't have anything packed and I had no where for a baby to sleep. So, take all your stuff and just be safe! I'd rather over pack and not need the stuff, than under pack and have nothing for you or babe!

@Grace: Yeah, I'm totally prepared for labor to take a while! What worries me is that we would be driving back into Manhattan to get to my hospital...and I have all of these (possibly irrational) fears of there being awful traffic to get through the Lincoln Tunnel and I am stuck laboring in a car for hours. Its 1-1.5 hours without traffic, but that could easily become 3 hours depending on when it happens.
I know I am probably being paranoid!

@PawPrints: @LiveLove: Thanks for your input! I am glad I'm seeing these comments on carseat...I will be a bit more insistent with my husband. I agree that it can't hurt to bring! We'll need it in the next few weeks anyway, so why not.

If you have room and it makes you feel better, then pack up and take it. Otherwise, I'd pack it and leave it at home to be picked up. Even if you go into labour early, you still have time to get to your hospital. There are exceptions, of course, but generally labour takes forever.

@oliviaoblivia: Oooh that's a really good point! I should bring my records with me. I didn't even think of this...maybe I should call my OB today and see if they can give me copies of what they have so far? (I've only been seeing them since 21 weeks, so its not much...I have everything else at home already).

@ShootingStar: Thanks for your input! I agree, I guess if I can get it done I might as well bring it. I really don't want to bring more than is essential anyway, so I probably already have a lot of it in my normal going away bag.

@MrsTiz: I remember that! I feel like I've seen enough on HB and have had a couple of friends IRL go into labor at 35-36 weeks which is why I am nervous! I know odds are I won't but still. My husband thinks I'm nuts and overthinking!

@youboots: Oh I would TOTALLY do it if I were you then! 37 weeks and 3.5 hours away is definitely a situation where I would take full hospital gear and baby gear. I feel like 1-1.5 hours isn't so bad and could easily be done in a single round trip, but 3.5 is far...that's a full day of traveling to get the things you need, and that's assuming there isn't a snow storm. (So not trying to worry you, but just want to say that I would totally pack if I were you).

@Foodnerd81: So do you think carseat too? I mentioned this to my husband last night and he was like "no, its fine". He thinks that 1.5 hours isn't far and if he has to he can come back and get it. I feel like "why not just bring it? We can leave it in the trunk or even install it so its done and ready anyway." I am a classic planner and he's a procrastinator, so hopefully we balance each other out when the kid is here :)

@avivoca: @snowjewelz: Agree! I do feel like I should pack bare essentials either way - my pregnancy app has been telling me to pack since like 32 weeks and I just felt like I was tempting fate to do that. But now it feels legit! I'll probably just pack since I'm home anyway today and tomorrow. Then its just deciding whether to take it with me or not. Either way its good to have done when I get back at 36 weeks!

@youboots: Your doctor is probably going to tell you not to travel more than 1-2 hours away at that point.

@SweetiePie: If you have room you could throw in your hospital bag.

I'd just bring everything. You'll have it ready even if baby doesn't come early.

If you're hesitant to pack, I'd at least bring all of your health info and the car seat. I didn't use half of what I packed for the hospital.

I'm paranoid and OCD so I'd better be safe than sorry! The good thing is if you pack it now, then you're just done & ready!
