I had DD just a few months before my 35th birthday. It took us 11 cycles to conceive. Because of my age, I was really concerned and started the process of getting ourselves checked out early on. For me, knowing that I had experts to talk to helped alleviate my worries. If there was a problem, most can be fixed and it can take awhile. I was tentatively scheduled for an HSG dye test, I just needed to call in my period date, but we got a BFP that month instead

I hope you get your :bfp: soon!

I am 35 and recently got my BFP and was definitely worried about my age but it only took us 2 cycles, to our great surprise.

I have had a history that indicates probable endometriosis, plus I have dealt with terrible irregular menstrual bleeding for the past 3-4 years (meaning I start bleeding and/or spotting about 3 DPO many cycles and bleed right up until "real" AF comes 7-10 days after that, which is only distinguishable from the previous bleeding because AF *always* is accompanied by massive, debilitating cramps). The extremely severe cramps and lower abdominal pain combined with the irregular bleeding both led to the probably endo indication, and made me think I'd have real problems getting pregnant. I didn't see how anyone who starts bleeding at 3-5 DPO could manage to have a baby successfully implant!

But I read lots of books while my husband and I got ready to TTC, including my favorites, The Impatient Woman's Guide to Getting Pregnant and Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I charted using temp, CM and OPKs for about a year while we were preparing to TTC, to get to know my cycle (and to keep track of how bad the irregular bleeding was). I also did a few months of acupuncture (twice weekly for the first month, and then weekly for the six weeks leading up to my BFP).

My favorite thing, though, was using the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor. It really helped me more than OPKs alone to predict ovulation, because it tracks both estrogen and LH it gives you more warning of O and you can really time your BD perfectly (assuming SO doesn't go out of town like my DH did for O day during our first cycle TTC!). My friends all joke that the CBFM is "magic" because so many of us over-35s have gotten pregnant within 2 cycles using it.

Acupuncture is the other thing my over-35 friends all swore by. I just followed their advice and combined that and got my BFP within 2 cycles!

Oh, and I took royal jelly from a local bee farm the cycle I got my BFP. That could be a red herring, but it's worth noting.

That said, I spent the previous year getting VERY healthy--eating super well, lots of whole fresh local food, cut out caffeine and cut down alcohol, exercising regularly to be strong and active, and started meditating to manage the stress of my career. I'm sure getting fit and healthy and eating so well and using strategies to manage stress must have helped. I also tried to approach TTC with a "if it's meant to be, it will be" attitude, and to daily recognize my amazing relationship with my DH of 7 years (together 11!) and that we have been soooo happy together without a baby, we will continue to be each others' soul mate and best friend, with or without a baby, though a baby would be an amazing blessing if it's meant to be for us.

@CatchAFallingStar: Last visit they wrote "probable endometriosis" on my chart. I've also had issues with my lining not being thick enough. I've been seeing a RE and just finished a round of injectables+IUI.

i was 35 when we started trying and was able to become pregnant very quickly. age was definitely a concern, and my thinking was that if i did not become pregnant in 6 months, i would see a specialist. i second people's suggestions that if you're interested, seeing a specialist might be very helpful. sending my best encouragement to you!

I'm 38. We started TTC when I was 36 and ended up having to go to an RE. I'm finally pregnant now after 7 failed IUIs and one successful IVF.

Because of your age, you could easily get a referral to an RE. I recommend it.

Also, I was thinking last week that there should be a forum category for 35+.

Although I don't fall into the category of 35+ FTM, I was 33 when I got pregnant and was shocked when medical personnel referred to my "advanced maternal age". Especially because if I have a second baby, I will be well over 35 when I get try to get pregnant.

However, I find this article from the Atlantic last year quite heartening:
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/07/how-long-can-you-wait-to-have-a-baby/309374/
The author herself gave birth to three children, all of whom were born after she was 35. You should read the article just to learn what crazy sources of data folks use when asserting that women over 35 have difficulties conceiving. The best part of the article though is the following statement: "the vast majority of women in their late 30s will be able to get pregnant on their own."

I'm no fertility expert, but my sister had two successful pregnancies after 35 and I've known several other ladies who've conceived past that random number. It's not too late for you.

Me! I was 34 when I got pregnant right after we got married. I miscarried shortly after. Then it took another year to get pregnant again (took three months off from trying immediately after m/c per dr orders). We almost did IVF but got a surprise pregnancy. Did 9 months of acupuncture and at gluten free the last three months.

I was 35 when I got pregnant and was 36 when she was born (I think!).

Good luck and don't give up hope! It's not too late.

I don't know if mine is the most positive story, but I am currently pregnant at the age of 35 and will give birth at 36. We started trying when I was 33 and had a hard time with it. I was told by my OB that I was still young and not to worry, but it's still hard to not worry. We found out that DH has low motility and that it would be hard for us to get pregnant the old fashioned way. We did 3 IUIs and then moved on to IVF. We got pregnant on our first round of IVF. We went through a lot, but it was all worth it!

My advice is to always ask questions of your doctor and stay informed. If something isn't working, don't be afraid to speak up. It will all work out in the end.

I got pregnant with my first at 35, delivered at 36. It took us a year, but we were just NTNP and some months we were really not trying at all due to silly things like not wanting a summer baby in south Texas. Second pregnancy happened our first month of NTNP at 37. We lost that baby and I became slightly more obsessed (did OPK) and got pregnant in 2 months. We lost that one too. I then became even more obsessed and added acupuncture to OPK and again got pregnant in 2 months. I feel blessed that even with the losses, I was able to get pregnant quickly three times at the age of 37. I believe everyone is so different though. I have a friend who got pregnant on her honeymoon at 40 and it took her 3 months to conceive number two at 42. Good luck and don't be afraid to use all of the resources that you can to help move things along.

I became pregnant at 34 and delivered at 35.

My husband was the one that kept me grounded. His logic is that you don't just "get problems" on the day you turn 35. If there are issues, chances are you would have found them earlier, but there is nothing you can do about that now, you are where you are.

I think it's great that there are a lot more options available to us now, but at the end of the day, your body is still your chronological age, so you have to keep it in mind.

@Catchafallingstar - Just turned 38 in October and am at 38w 5d with my first. We started ttc when I was 35. After about 8 months we went to an RE to find out why it was taking us so long to conceive. What we found out was my DH had low testosterone and was put on Clomid and I also have a low ovarian reserve as well as one fallopian tube. With those factors my RE suggested we try IUI a couple of times.

August 2012. we decided to proceed with IVF based on reco's from our RE. We also found out my DH's insurance covers 80% of the procedure up to 6 cycles and his open enrollment was April 2013. So we waited to enroll so we can proceed with our journey. We went to Mexico in Mid April. We were about to start IVF in May, but found out we were pg on our own.

Our journey was and is a roller coaster. My message to you is, don't lose hope. The great thing now a days is the fact that we have so many different options available to us. Also, a group like Hellobee is such a supportive, uplifting, kind and hopeful online community!

Good luck and I hope my story provides a little hope.

Hi! I was 34 and a half when we fell pregnant an delivered at 35. It may have been a fluke in our case but we got pregnant quickly and easily.

All of my friends are pretty much 35 or older And they all got pregnant too. It took one of my friends 2 years to get her baby boy. She started trying at 37. Another was 35 and it took her 9 months, another 37 year old friend too two months, another 38 year old took 3 months. Everyone ended up with a baby in the end but some its just taking longer for. I have a 32 year old friend who has been trying for almost a year and still nothing but she hasn't gotten checked yet.

You are smart to check things out and see if anything can help but try not to lose hope. There are a lot of people your age and much older who do conceive. This comforts me as I get ready to try for number two at 36. It also helped me to look through the pregnancy charts of mt age group on fertility friend. It took them all different amounts of time to conceive but they all got their. Hugs and baby dust sent your way.

Hi, there! While I already have an LO (I had her last March at 35), I am 36, and two of my friends who are the same age are recently pregnant and two others who gave birth last year at 35+ well. While none required fertility treatments, all had routine and easy pregnancies. I just wanted to send you a word of encouragement, and that it is possible! All the best with your TTC journey!

Hi mommies! Congrats on your pregnancies.

Wondering if any of you are 35+, pregnant with your first. How long did it take you? Did your age worry you? Did you need fertility treatment?

I'm 35 and have been TTC for over a year. I'm just feeling so down and frustrated.

Thank you!!!
