Sounds like my DD, except she burped/puked a lot, too. I used ton of different gripe waters, gas drops, the windi, probiotics, infant massage, etc - nothing seemed to make a difference. She was diagnosed with GERD and got put on Zantac, which maybe helped 20%. (I haven't wanted to put her on stronger PPIs.). Really, I think the biggest help has just been time. She still wakes up screaming with apparent gas occasionally, but it's its nothing compared to how she was weeks 2-5 (she's 8 weeks now). We found a combination of tight swaddling (even if she seemed to "fight" it), pretty loud white noise, paci and rocking helped to settle her from her crazy screaming. And constant movement, whether in be in the car or being worn. But yeah, it was really rough there for a while - hang in there!

Your comment about hiccups made me think reflux too (it was a symptom for both my kids who had silent reflux due to food intolerances).

Agree with @gingerbebe: what you're going through sounds exactly like what we went through when my LO was very small. Frequent hiccups, grunting, screaming in pain unless he was being worn, eating frequently to soothe his throat (which resulted in very fast weight gain!)...he had silent reflux. Getting him on meds was a life saver.

Probiotics, qtip with Vaseline, and burping much harder and for much longer (like 5 minutes) helped with DS.

I think it's really common at that age and her tummy just had to mature, plus the waking up and being more alert thing. Does her formula have probiotics? My pediatrician suggested them for G and it made such a huge difference, but she also wasn't pooping very much and getting really uncomfortable.

I know you said you don't have room for an exercise ball, but it is seriously the best thing for a cranky baby. We don't have room for anything but that ball earns every square inch it takes up. It's just a lot easier on you and DH to not have to be walking and bouncing your knees and seems more soothing to both of mine. Our last one got a hole when G was tiny and we ordered a new one immediately. (It was like 4 years old at that point).

Good luck!

@Cherrybee: she might have silent reflux - they don't really spit up as much because they swallow it down but it burns coming up and coming down and the swallowing traps air in their tummies on top of it all so burping burns too. Grunting and being unhappy after feedings is a symptom. My son had it on top of colic. It was miserable. Can you talk to your doctor about trying Zantac? That worked for us for about a month but we had to switch to Prevacid to really get results.

What worked for us:

- feeding in an upright position when using a bottle
- leaving him upright for a while (20 min?) after feeding
- frequently stopping to burp
- gas drops and gripe water
- tummy massage, then bicycle legs, then pressing both legs in towards abdomen
- rectal pressure/windi

A qtip with a bit of lotion or Vaseline. Just the very tip to move the sphincter muscle and that stimulates them to fart or poop. My LO2 had trouble and the ped was just like baby guts are weird and it gave her such relief to be able to fart and poop. I got over the yuckiness of it bc poor girl was in tears over needing to poop and not being able to.

Do you have a swing? They're massive and I was so anti at first but ended up borrowing one from a friend and LO2 loved it. Like this: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Snugabunny-Cradle-Swing-Technology/dp/B00IVNEGLW

I second the bouncing on an exercise ball. Also, maybe gripe water would help? Sorry you're going through this. My husband called the first two months "the dark days" but once he hit 3 months things got considerably better. Now at 5 months it's actually really easy - our 3-year-old can be challenging but the baby is super chill. I wish the same for you!

I had a hard time getting my DD to burp, but my DH could always get the stubborn ones out. He would hold her against his shoulder, bounce up and down, and smack her back really hard. It was so much harder than I expected or was able to do. It wouldn't take much and she would relax instantly. We had a really fussy period here between 3-6 weeks.

My little one is so hard to burp too, and sometimes this works when other methods fail! Good luck, hopefully it's just a few fussy days! We've had a few of those fussy spells in my son's ten weeks - my first was colicky too and each one terrified me - but he always went back to his generally mellow self after a few days. Hope you get so lucky too!

@LBee: We've tried both gas drops and keg cycling too. I think you might be right about her "waking up", because she has in every sense of the word. My oldest had colic and I'm hoping & praying this one doesn't start the inconsolable crying.

Gas drops? (simethicone)

I hate to say this, but a lot of babies "wake-up" around 3 weeks and tend to get more fussy. Hopefully it's just gas though!

We have had two really, really bad nights in a row with S, and then today she has screamed all day, unless she is in the sling and I'm moving about.

What's going on??

She appears to have terrible trapped wind. She has been a very windy baby from the start, grunting almost constantly. She gets terrible hiccups regularly. She rarely burps when we wind her, no matter what position we use. But over the last few days she has got so much worse.

So far, we have tried:

- Dr Browns bottles (I'm formula feeding)
- Comfort milk (partially hydrolosed)
- Burping over the shoulder, over our knees and leaning forward.
- Swaddling (she fights it)
- White noise
- Dummy (paci). Works, but she spits it out constantly.
- Warm bath (works while she's in it but not once she's out)
- Massaging tummy (doesn't help)

She's not constipated - she's done two big poops today.

We are really tired. Any suggestions?
