I wouldn't drop the nap but I'd shorten it to an hour and also push bedtime back to 8pm.

@Eminthevalley: we are still in nighttime pull ups but he doesn't like to go in them. I only want to limit the one within the first 30 mins of bedtime, you know? I wonder if a digital clock would work. My LO knows his bedtime, 8:00. And I think I could say something like if you wake up after 9:00 you can go potty, by until then, you can go one time?

@Mrs Green Grass: how do you limit the potty? Is the door locked or something? I have this fear that the one time I'll say no to a potty request will be the time it's real...

My 3.5yo only naps at daycare, never at home for me. I try to get her into bed between 8-9pm, and then she's on her own to fall asleep as she wishes. She might open the door once to potty, but I'm pretty strict about her staying in her room. If she's not asleep by 10, I'll go in there and lay down the law. If she falls asleep any later, she's a zombie the next morning. Usually, she conks out earlier on days she doesn't nap, not sure if that's helpful or not. I wouldn't drop the nap though if they don't fight you on it.

I wouldn't drop the nap. We do a one time limit for potty, but I still end up having between 2 and 6 door openings...

i used to have good sleepers until this summer. They used to go to bed easily at 7:00. When the time changed this year, we moved bedtime to 7:30 when my boys pulled open their blackout curtains at 7 and said it was still daytime. For most of the summer they have taken until 8:30-9:00 to actually fall asleep. And now they're popping out of their room upwards of 10x after "lights out." Each time they say they have to go potty and they probably go 3x each. I swear they save up some pee just to get out of their room again!
I feel like if we dropped their nap (12:30-2:00 ish) we could move bedtime earlier. But they start a new preschool in two weeks where they'll be required to take a nap 2x a week on their full days.
Help! Drop the nap or no? What to do about bedtime shenanigans?
