@Rock n Roll: What is frustrating is she used to be head down! Then at some point she decided to flip the other way and has been that way ever since :( Her potential size makes me worry about it being too late, my first daughter was an ounce shy of 9 lbs and 22 inches long so I feel like she might not have enough room to flip over even though when my MW was feeling around and looking on the ultrasound she said she should definitely have enough room :/ And yes, my first was born completely naturally.

@mrs. wagon: Thank you! I am glad I at least have the chance to think about it and prepare myself for the possibility, I would difinitely be traumatized if I went through hours of labor to have an emergency c-section. Though I don't know if your pluses apply to my situation since my midwife will still try to flip her in the begining of labor and if it doesn't happen then we will go to the hospital. I am not 100% sure how it works, I am sure we will talk about an actual plan at my appointment on thursday.

@purrpletulips: Well, I go to a birthing center, I have never been to the hospital here but I have read that it is a very baby friendly hospital! I guess I will ask my midwife if it is a possibility since she has had to transfer a few people over for c-sections. If that was a possibility it would make me much happier about the situation.

@jessiejo17: I definitely try to remember that, and I know if it ends in a c-section it happened for a reason.

@autumnlove: That gives me a bit of hope, how big was your LO may I ask?

@Mrs. Jump Rope: What a lovely story, thank you :) I really hope I can be as calm as you if it ends up being my path.

@rachiecakes: I guess it's just one of those things that you don't know until it happens, I guess I am mostly afraid of the unknown. I already know that my body can deliver a decent sized baby sunny side up with no issues at all, perhaps tmi but I felt completely recovered as soon as I had my first poop the next day and was up and walking within the first hour or so of birth. Besides I have never done well with any pain medications and always end up feeling like crap when I have them :(

@MrsBrewer: Thank you! I definitely try to remember that :)

I've had so many friends that would have another csection over a vaginal birth any day.
I can't compare for myself but I had a huge episiotomy due to a large baby that was 'sunny side up', it took longer to heal than any csection I've known of and there's still a small complication that I'm dealing with.
It sounds like you're working with a great MW, they will take care of you :) In the end all that matters is healthy baby & healthy mama.

I can definitely understand your frustration. Baby Jumper was born via planned c-section because she, too, was breech.
It's a tough pill to swallow, especially if you had your heart set out on a vaginal birth.

A c-section isn't a horrible birth experience. Mine was incredible (you can read the story here: http://www.hellobee.com/2012/04/13/chloes-birth-story-part-1/ and here: http://www.hellobee.com/2012/04/16/chloes-birth-story-part-2-2/)

It truly was a pleasant experience, and a very relaxed one; no one was in a rush and everything was planned, and I had time to do research, comfort myself, talk to my husband and OB to calm my fears... in other words, I was at peace with the c-section, and knew that this was the healthiest exit for baby.

Good Luck, just remember that you will get to meet your baby no matter what form of delivery ends up happening. The most important thing is to do whatever is healthiest for baby and momma even if it goes against your initial birth plan.

Have you checked with your hospital to see if they would allow baby to be placed on your chest if birth is by c-section? I've been reading that this is becoming more and more common (especially if the hospital is rated baby friendly). I will be sending positive flip over thoughts your way. Maybe the way to approach this is to mentally prepare yourself for the c-section so that you can have some mental control if not physical control over the birth process.

@cyndistar3: Good luck!! And I agree with the other posters... the C-section isn't a horrible birth experience, just a different one. Obviously medically if it's the best way to get the baby out safely, knowing now is so much better than finding out after 20 hours of labor and rushing to the OR!! It might not seem as intimate as pushing out the baby and immediately getting skin to skin, but there are pluses as well... you know for sure when the baby is going to be born, and you aren't distracted and traumatized by crazy contractions or getting your epidural while contracting and vomiting and all that. I had several risk factors happen during my 24 hour labor that led my doc to tell me that I would probably need a C-section-- at hour 21! I was devastated because it was so sudden and going through all that labor didn't prepare me at all to think about a C-section. I'd so much rather know weeks in advance what to expect rather than go through all that trauma just to end up in a 5-minute emergency C-section.

I know this is very little to console you but just trying to look at the bright side :) Keep us updated!!!!

@cyndistar3: Boo! This pregnancy, the baby stayed breech until around 32 weeks and I was so worried she wouldn't turn, but she did. My first was head down pretty much the entire pregnancy, so it freaked me out when the second wasn't.

I hope she flips for you. I just know it gets harder and harder for them to do it as they get bigger. You had a natural birth with your first, didn't you?

@cyndistar3: Has your midwife tried to turn her? My midwife said that the time to try to turn is prior to labor, because it is difficult to maneuver the fetus in a contracting uterus, but easier in a relaxed one. She said if my kid was breech she would have tried to turn her at 37 or 38 weeks.

@mediagirl: My midwife will not do breech births but I am going to talk to her because she says she knows a really good doctor that is experienced with breech births. Though, I have read a lot of different information about feet first breeches are usually not attempted.

@mrs. wagon: Thank you! I am definitely hoping she turns on her own, it just seems unlikely because she is pretty straightened out in there with her bottom half fairly lodged in my pelvis :/

@MsMini: I honestly don't think it would be bad but you are right, it is very disappointing. Since I have already had the experience of a natural birth I will definitely miss that immediate bond of my baby being placed on my chest :(

@runsyellowlites: I am definitely waiting it out, my midwife won't send me off to anyone else unless we can't turn her in the early stages of labor. Even then, she said she will stay with me the whole time and continue on with my care after baby is born :)

My MW is experienced in breech birth but sadly most professionals aren't trained in them today :(

What she would suggest is:
1. Find another provider, many MW are still trained & experienced in this birthing method. It's never too late to switch!!
2. If you cannot find a provider then atleast wait for labor to start on its own. Some babies wait for labor to flip & even if baby doesn't flip you for sure know baby is ready & baby gets all those good labor hormones.

Since you're probably leaning more toward suggestion 2 (lots of times we're scared to switch providers that late so we don't) I would start thinking about how you would like your cesarean to go. Just because you have a cesarean does not mean you can't have an intimate birth!!! Definitely check out "the natural cesarean" on YouTube :)

I can understand how disappointing this must be for you.

I had an emergency c-section, and it really really wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. My recovery was extremely quick, I don't feel like my bond with Sawyer has suffered in the least, and I didn't have any issues with my milk coming in, like people would have you expect.

In my opinion, message boards and blogs have done a lot of demonizing of the c-section, it is not a lesser birth experience, just a different one.

I can understand why you would be so frustrated. Has your doctor commented on it or made suggestions? Are they willing to try to deliver a breech baby? Either way the baby comes out, you will end up with a wonderful baby. Try to think of the positive. Hugs!!

I don't know if this is the right place to post this so sorry if it is in the wrong place!

Well this stubborn child is still not cooperating and I have come to the conclusion that it is too late, her feet are planted firmly in my pelvis and she just will not move no matter what I do. I am just trying to mentally prepare myself for a c-section.... it is so far from anything I ever wanted for myself and I am finding myself feeling bitter and a bit resentful because of it. Now I am feeling very torn between being scared of going into labor in case she does flip later on and praying labor starts just so she can come out already because I am done being in pain and scared. Don't know if im looking for advice, I just needed to vent since dh just doesn't understand at all.
