I have a pretty bad cold/throat/voice issue going on right now. Has been going on about a week--I went to urgent care to rule out strep or flu or mono and they think its just a virus. Hadn't heard the pineapple thing before but I will try it! So far I've just been taking Tylenol with lots of OJ and some extra prenatal vitamins here and there to help boost my immune system (as much as possible)

Oh no bronchitis?!?! My MIL and friends husband got this really bad recently. I'm so sorry, I hope it's a short lasting case of it.

I had a bad cough a few weeks ago and Robitussin didn't do much for me - I ate a bunch of pineapple and I swear it helped. Maybe pineapple juice can help coat your throat in case the meds don't work.

So I went to urgent care and they said bronchitis. He did a blood test to see my white blood count and check for infection versus virus. Since my white blood count was in the normal range, he said it was likely a virus and told me to take robitssin DM and Tylenol.

@travellingbee: I had a cold last week and it turned into a horrible sore throat when I thought the cold was ending. I ended up losing my voice and I think that's why my throat hurt so badly. I was worried it was strep, since I'm 38 weeks, but after a day of resting my voice, drinking warm liquids and taking tylenol, I kicked it. I hope it works for you and it isn't anything more serious

@travellingbee: Probably the worst thing ever to do while pregnant, but I always gargle apple cider vinegar mixed with honey. And swallow a tiny bit. It hurts and it's awful, but it kills the bacteria and I cough up a lot of crap and it's gone after 1 or 2 attempts.

I guess I'll call this morning and then see if they think I should go to an urgent care. I just hate how urgent cares tend to write antibiotics prescriptions as a precaution without really knowing what it is. I get terrible yeast infections from antibiotics that don't respond to diflucan or over the counter medications so I'm always hesitant to get on them unless 100% necessary.

eta update: They said to head to and urgent care.

At this point, I'd go see a dr to rule out something major like strep or bronchitis. If you do have those, then they can prescribe you antibiotics. Don't want it to get out of hand and be down for the count!

When I had a horrible sore throat it was recommended to me by a friend to take children's Tylenol so the liquid could cost your throat. I'm sorry you're sick so close to the end!

Go to urgent care. Your OB won't diagnose/treat the sore throat issue, and you need to make sure it's not something that requires antibiotics before that baby comes. Good luck!

Can you take Robitussin? It was on my OB's list of approved meds. I got a cold when I was 37 weeks. I took Robitussin and gargled with salt water and felt better in a couple days.

For pain relief, how about cough drops or Chloraseptic spray? The spray really numbs the throat to give you come relief, even if it's temporary. And get yourself some ice cream! I know it sucks being sick and pg, I had the worst cold for 3 weeks right before I delivered, my doc said my immune system was just really taxed. Unless you have a fever I imagine the doc will tell you to wait it out: feel better :bummed:

What about just warm water and honey? And do you think it's from breathing through your mouth? If so breath right strips and a humidifier at night might help? I got a sucky cold at 39 weeks too- my midwife told me not to have the baby until I was better (which I did but then Dh brought another cold home anyway. )

I had a cold that started Christmas Eve and this afternoon it turned into a horrible sore throat. I can't talk it hurts so bad. But swallowing food has been ok. I've tried mucinex, Tylenol, gargling with salt water, tea with honey (which gave me reflux) and cough drops. This is so frustrating. I don't have a primary care doctor... Should I call my Obgyn tomorrow or go to an urgent care? Or just try to ride it out?
