My Drs office doesn't offer it, I would have to go elsewhere for a 3d/4d ultrasound. I'm not though, I personally think it's a big waste of money. Why not just wait until they're born and be surprised and see what they look like? I'd be too creeped out seeing all of my baby's features anyways.

i got 2 - don't think i got charged for it. they just kinda did it. i don't think we needed to pay for it - or at least they haven't billed me for it. and i'm glad i got it. i think it may be worth it if you do it later on (like 30 week?), when they look more like what they'd look like when they come out? so it would be cool to compare. but i think it's a splurge and not a necessity. if we had to pay for it? i dunno. maybe. maybe not.

We did it, we didn't find out the sex, so the tech just stayed away from those bits.

We got such a clear shot of his face, he looked so boyish, at that point I just confirmed my instincts. The tech advised me to stay away from any caffeine for two weeks before so the amniotic fluid would be nice and clear.

my OB has been giving me 2D and 3D scans every two weeks since i was 24 weeks preggers. i was never given an option not to get the 3D scan. i actually love seeing my babies' faces on the scans - gets me even more excited about meeting them in person.

@prettylizy: Yeah there is a place near me that offers that service but you have to pay extra for the cd of the baby in motion and they even add a song to it for you if you want.

@prettylizy: I was told 4D basically means you get a recording of the baby moving around. so instead of just a 3D picture you get a CD sort of like a movie. So the 4th dimension is real time in motion

We didn't bother.... just didn't seem like a priority I guess. Also, what is a 4D ultrasound?? My science nerd background tells me that time is the 4th dimension, how do we ultrasound time?

Yes, best money I ever spent! It gave us a feeling that we could know the little stranger in my belly. We also agreed on a name because we could see it fitting him from the pictures.

I'll see about loading my 30 week shots to compare with his newborn shots onto flikr and posting a link later today.

I haven't had one yet, but we plan to when the time comes. A good number of my friends had them done while they were pregnant, and every single one of them loved it/was very excited about it. Some of them included the 4D photo of their baby in their baby shower thank you cards, which I thought was a fun way to make your investment go further.

I will say, though, that most guys (who were not the father) comment that they think they photos are creepy. Not sure if that's a guy thing, though, because most ladies I know think they're neat.

we chose not to do any other ultrasounds than what was medically necessary. My baby doesnt seem to like ultrasounds at all so I partially dread having them done because I feel bad for her, I dont know if the sound/vibrations bother her but she fights to get away from the doppler

At my OB's office, they offer a 3D/4D ultrasound between 26 and 30 weeks for $135. It's not covered by insurance because it's not medically necessary. We are going to get it at the end of my 26th week.

Did you have this ultrasound? Were you happy you did so or did you feel like it wasn't worth it?
