@Foodnerd81: yah this is true that they’re definitely more “on” in the morning

My 3 yo almost never naps but she does have a lot more energy in the morning. She needs to chill in the afternoon for a few hours. I’d probably keep her in the morning.

I think morning is usually a better, easier time for kids and teachers .

I think it totally depends upon whether you think your LO will function well in that setting without a nap. My older DD would have been a mess, but I know a lot of 3 year olds that don’t need the nap.

I would do it if he doesn’t need to nap. If he’s a mess without napping stick to the morning.

@nwm: he will nap if we’re driving but rarely lays down for a nap at home. He always naps at school though.

@PinkElephant: that’s a great point and I will ask. I don’t think it will affect 4yo placement but I will check

For your very specific scenario, I'd probably accept afternoon and take the discount....on the one condition that agreeing to afternoon placement for threes does not hurt your child's chances of having morning placement for fours.

For a fours class, when they're learning to write and possibly read, I absolutely would not want an afternoon program if at all avoidable. And for my particular almost-3-year-old, I think missing nap might be a dealbreaker, but I know just how critical nap is varies from kid to kid at this age.

How well does your kid nap? My 3yo naps maybe 50% of the time, but I think if he still napped 100% of the time I would probably stick with mornings.

@JCCovi: yes all at one location. It’s a k-4th grade school with a daycare attached.

So they would be at the same location all day? Just the teachers would move them to a different classroom in the afternoons?

If that's the case I would take the free month. Depends how badly they need that nap I guess.

If I had to handle transportation between places I would stick with the morning program.

@Autumnmama79: it’s pretty okay based - outside time, painting, different stations like sensory, they have classroom animals to take care of. Story time song time.

@gotkimchi: As a teacher I would typically say stick to the morning program as children have more energy and alertness for learning before noon. However, three is very young and social learning is arguably the most important at that age. So, if it was a play based model I don't think it would matter as much. What is the curriculum of the 3k program?

Would you switch your child from a morning 3k to an afternoon 3k for one month free?

Kid would be at school from 8:30-3:30 either way. Either morning in daycare and 3k in the afternoon or vice versa. Discount would be $120 so not a lot but not nothing. Bad news is those days (2days per week) they wouldn’t nap. Worth it or not?
