@irene: yeah of course don't do it too much, but we had gotten lazy like you said about clearing the mucus, so we really had to make an effort to do it.

@T-Mom: Didn't they say don't suck a baby/toddler 's nose for more than a few times a day?

I used to be better with clearing his nose, but he was at home then and he doesn't get as sick as he does now. Now he just gets a cold nonstop. At one point I stopped sucking his nose because 1. he hated it so much ; 2. I gave up because 10 minutes later his nose was all runny again. And we are not supposed to keep clearing it; 3. I don't see him except in the morning, evening and weekends... I should do better ....

Sorry to hear this. It's heartbreaking, but we're going through the same thing. Anytime DD gets sick, she gets ear infections, so I'm finally breaking down and getting tubes. I've been resisting but everyone I've talked to says how wonderful and life changing they were for their child, and I'm tried of always having her on antibiotics. Good luck

We has frequent ear infections with DD (she ended up getting tubes and immediately fixed everything and it only took 10 min for the operation, it was really quite a good experience). We were vigilant with nose sucking to prevent mucus from backing up near ears and growing bacteria.

So sorry to hear! My niece has been going through constant colds/ear infections since starting daycare :(

If you can find a good family chiropractor, they can sometimes have success in reducing chronic ear infections by making slight adjustments that will help drain the inner ear. Here's more: http://www.acatoday.org/content_css.cfm?CID=69

Hope you find relief soon!

Sometimes you can't prevent them. When I was little I had to get tubes in my ears because I was just like your LO. My ears just werent draining the fluid correctly. I still get ear infections almost monthly and avoid water in my ears like the plague. I would suggest talking to an ENT. Honestly, tubes were the best thing my parents ever did for me. I never had ANY problems because of them and they fell out a few years later.

Keep in mind there are horror tories about everything. Did you decide to not have a baby because of the horror stories associated with pregnancy and giving birth? Obviously not. So try to take them with a grain of salt.

Oh, and putting wax in my ears every time I was going to be in water also helped me a bunch.

Anyone has any suggestion on PREVENTING ear infections?

LO is 13 months and he never had an ear infection for the first year. But that was when we kept him home with a nanny. Now he started daycare 2 months ago and already got the 3rd ear infection! Ahhhh!

I really don't want to even contemplate putting tubes in. I heard way too many horror stories about it. I had maybe 1 ear infection when I was a baby, and my husband had none. That's because we were at home before preschool. It makes me feel like a bad mom putting my kid through this because I want the convenience of being able to work.

Anyone has any suggestions that prevents ear infections??? Doctor said we have to consider tubes if he gets more than 6-7 ear infections in a year. :(

Story sharing is welcomed too.....
