Same as @mamamoose and @jholler25. I experienced bright red bleeding during the 1st and 3rd trimester, and it was b/c of a sensitive, easily irritated cervix. During the 3rd trimester, it was always after a bowel movement. I remember freaking out so much and calling my OB's office each time. They were great about seeing me though, and told me that bright red bleeding always warrants a phone call.

I'm glad they checked you out, and hope you have some good news on Monday.

@LemonLong: glad the doc checked you out! My baby's head has been super low for a while and my doc isn't worried about it. We checked on ultrasound and pushed on the baby and even with pressure my cervix wasn't opening. So don't let that worry you too much. As your doctor instructed just try to rest and stay horizontal as much as possible this weekend. Take care of yourself mama.

Update! The doctor's office ended up calling me and said I should come in rather than just calling back if it happens again. The PA checked my cervix and I wasn't dialated, but she was concerned because the baby's head is already super low so the baby seems to be in position for labor. She said to take it easy this weekend, watch for any cramping, low pressure, or contractions and if I have any to come in on Monday and they'll do a swab test to see if I'm at risk for premature labor.

So not great news, but I feel better that at least they did something instead of just dismissing it.

I went in to L&D 3 times from 30 weeks until Livs due date. And all 3 times I profusely apologized, and the nurses reassured me every time that they would rather you come in to be checked than risk it because you dont want to be seen as a bother. All 3 times they did an ultrasound and hooked me up for fetal monitoring to see what was happening (in my case it was reduced fetal movement.) Best case scenario, its a sensitive cervix and you can go home. Worst case, you are in a hospital where they can do whatever they need to do for you and the baby. I suspect since it only happens with BMs that it could be a sensitive cervix like a pp said, but you always, always want to take the cautious route.

Ditto @MamaMoose:...

In my first tri, I had spotting after bowel movements (and the bleeding was definitely from the vagina)...I ended up in the ER once over it. They said basically that my cervix was just sensitive and the bowel movements were irritating it.

I hope that is all it is for you!!!

If you are having contractions, they can give you a shot to stop the contractions and possibly a steroid shot for the babies lungs. They also may move you to the high risk pregnancy floor where they can watch you full time. I'm not saying either of these would happen but I don't think going to the hospital is a bad option if you are nervous.

It's most likely that you just have a sensitive cervix and the pressure from having a bowel movement is causing blood from your cervix (and not from the baby). That has happened to me, but it's always very very little blood. If I were you I would probably just call my doctor's office back and say I'm not comfortable not getting check out and ask them to book you today and if they can't, that you will go to the ER. I know it's a pain to go the ER and it's expensive (believe me, I've had to go three times so far and I'm only 29 weeks).... but it's worth it for the piece of mind. And if there is something wrong you want it dealt with immediately for the safety of you and baby.

My situation was different but what happened with me is I felt a pop (water break) then I had a gush of water and then I went to the bathroom to wipe and there was blood. We went to the hospital and I delivered my baby 24 hours later. My situation says WAY different than yours, but you are early and if you are nervous, go to the hospital. I went to the hospital and I'm so glad I did. They can also monitor to see if you are having any contractions.

also, it could be your cyst. Ive had a cyst rupture (not while pregnant) and it bled bright red, but still, I would want to be looked at.

when it comes to fear of your baby's health, please, PLEASE NEVER EVER worry about being a nusiance in going to the doctor or ER. My OB always told me that bright red blood warranted an immediate call. If I were in your situation, Id call again and say it happened again. If they are just as dismissive, go to the ER

At 28 weeks I had some bright red bleeding while having a bowel movement. There was quite a bit of red blood in the toilet bowl, and then of course when I wiped myself. The blood was coming from my vagina, and not my behind.

I went to the doctor and they did a pelvic exam and an ultra sound and didn't see anything and put me on pelvic rest. At the ultrasound, the tech said she was having a hard time measuring the distance between my cervix and the placenta because of where the baby was sitting and she didn't want to do an internal one because of the pelvic rest. She said the doctor may want me to come in for an internal ultrasound later. However when my doctor got my ultrasound pictures she said it looked okay.

Now this morning at 32 weeks I had the same issue, where I had a bowel movement and I'm bleeding, but it's seemed to stop now and it's just spotting, I called the doctor's office and the nurse told me to call back if it starts again.

I had an appt with the doctor yesterday and I told her I was having a lot of pain in my lower left side, and that everytime the baby moved it was very painful. She said she didn't know what could be causing it but I should try a chiropractor to see if they can get the baby to move away from my left side. At my 20 week appt, my placenta was borderline previa, and I still had a cyst on my left ovary which had shrunk from 4.5 cm to 2.5 cm.

I can't tell if I feel crampy right now or it's my imagination! Did any of you have third trimester bleeding, if so, did you do anything for it? I'm not thrilled with the care at my doctor's office so not sure I trust them, but I don't want to run to the ER over nothing either...
