My DD is a great eater and would eat just about anything and everything you put in front of her until she got a little older.. around 3..... she's 4 now and sometimes she just doesn't want to eat what if put in front of her. I don't think it's cause for alarm. I think it's just normal 3 yo behavior.

Does he say why he doesn't want the nuggets/meatballs? And why it makes him cry?

My 3 year old is also horrible at eating some days, it varies. Last night he begged for pizza, then took 2 bites. I'd be more concerned about his reaction, then about not eating.

He won't even eat the sides or anything at all the whole day, or he's just refused some things some days?

My dd was picky (still kinda is) and my ds is only 2 but a meal he loves one day he hates the next. From what you've posted here it just sounds like the stage he's in and maybe a little boundary testing and I wouldn't worry at this point as long as his totals for the week are good (including home and school meals combined) and he's not generally having tummy troubles or losing weight.

My 3 year old is feast or famine. He'll go days where he literally eats air and dust molecules and then days he'll eat as much as DH. Whatever, they won't starve themselves.

My 3 year old has has the worst bouts of pickiness after she turned 3! I was pulling my hair out but happy to report that the phases comes and goes and the best strategy was really to ride it out and try not to cater to their food moodiness so much.

Ha, what’s wrong with my 3 year old. I hear that. I try to think of it this way - some days I’m hungrier than others. Some days I’d happily eat a ham sandwich, other days I wouldn’t feel like it. As long as your 3 year old eats fairly regularly over the course of a few days (is he eating breakfast/snacks/dinner?) I would assume it’s a phase and not worry about it.

Are they dairy free chicken nuggets and meatballs? It's so hard to find dairy free versions of those.

But other than that, i'd chalk it up to a stage. Maybe offer to pack lunch for a while.

I would say the problem is he’s 3 :silly: can’t explain them and I wouldn’t try. As long as he’s eating sometimes I would ignore it. Make sure he’s not constipated but 3 yo are weird

I'll be the first to admit, we are not really healthy eaters at my house. DH is a big snacker and I've never been particularly good at eating regularly. In fact, 3 of my friends told him his new job was to make me eat when we got married...

But DS has always been good about eating at daycare till this last month. Daycare has a standard meal plan with USDA and he's been just fine eating it till 2 weeks ago when he cried when they put chicken nuggets on his plate. And the next day he cried and refused meatballs.

Note that he has eaten these successfully at home since then. I was worried that maybe he had developed a new allergy (he is allergic to milk) so we took him in for more tests, but he's only allergic to milk still! Since then, he has been off and on with food at daycare. Some days he eats, some he doesn't.

What's wrong with my 3yo?
