@Pumuckl: Actually, there was another kid there splashing a lot on the day she got in the pool with no problem, but there weren't any other kids in there yesterday when she flipped out. Maybe she needs to see another kid in the pool in order to feel that it's safe?? She's also very susceptible to peer pressure, so maybe that's why she was so brave the first time. Maybe she didn't want to act scared with other kids watching. She's also not feeling well today, so she might have just been feeling sick and that somehow contributed to the panic.

My almost thee year old does this. With her it's about her hair getting wet. She has tons of fun once she gets in but needs constant reminders that if her hair getting a little wet is ok. It's sad though because there are ALWAYS tears when we get to the pool

@LML: where there by any chance other kids that splashed around a lot the time she was scared? Some kids are really afraid of getting accidentally wet/splashed.

DS is turning 2 next month, but he's the same way. I know he loves the pool, but it always takes some time warming up. I always have to go in with him and have him near me or in my lap. After a few minutes of warming up, he's fine and is off on his own. It happens every time to us too, and no idea how to curb it, but hopefully he'll outgrow it eventually??

My almost 3-year-old is suddenly terrified of pools. The weird thing is that her fear is VERY inconsistent. Last week we took her to the pool and she did great. She got in the baby pool without being prompted, and played and splashed. Then we took her again yesterday to the same exact baby pool, and she freaked out. She wouldn't even sit on the edge and put her feet in (which she's always done in the past, even when she was scared to actually go in), and she clung to me and screamed in terror. I'm not sure what's going on there.

What should I be doing to help her get through this fear?
