Loosely - we do maybe every other day for new food. We have no history of food allergies on either sides of the family so I am really not too worried about anything.

@spaniellove: I'm more comfortable with the "old" research findings. ;) if I was only afraid of a rash developing then it's not a big sea. But the thought of my younger than one infant not being able to breathe because her throat is closing up is too scary to risk!

Did not, won't do it with my second. She did end up having an allergy, and it was still easy to figure out what it was to.

We were pretty strict with LO1, but didn't follow many rules at all with LO2 other than for known allergenic foods. We were lucky with both LOs, neither has food allergies.

@regberadaisy: I think more recent research shows it's actually better not to wait to introduce allergens, although honey is not an allergen - it's the botulism risk that's an issue. There was an article in the NE Journal of Medicine in the last month or so saying children at high risk for peanut allergy who were intentionally given peanut before 1 had a greatly reduced incidence of peanut allergy.

I did not because we don't have a history of food allergies and she didn't have any of the other things that typically go along with food allergies, like excema.

I followed the 3 day rule pretty strictly with my oldest because my nephew has severe allergies. Like can't eat food that comes into contact with eggs or shellfish or else he can't breath allergic. So I wasnt taking chances as a FTM. ;) I am a bit more lax so far with DD2. But will still wait 3 days for high allergen items. I also don't plan to introduce eggs, shellfish, nuts, milk and honey till after one.

Honey is the only definitive no no till after one that I know of.

We didn't follow it either. I figured if he had a reaction to something that I would go back and figure out what it was, but we never had any issues.

Nope! We did BLW and just fed him whatever we were eating. We definitely kept an eye out for allergic reactions, but fortunately didn't get any. We don't have any known allergies on either side so we just proceeded (with caution).

@spaniellove: @My Only Sunshine: Great! Yeah I figured that waiting every 4 days would take forever...and I am not patient. I think I will go with one new food per day, but that's pretty much it.

@MenagerieMama: We were very loosey goosey with that rule. I tried not to introduce a bunch of new things in the same day, and generally kept a little record on a piece of paper on the refrigerator, but really I only even did that for a week or two before it seemed like she was going to be fine with most foods.

The only things I intentionally made a record of when we gave them to her were the more classically allergenic things (peanut butter, eggs) and strawberries because my mom is allergic to them.

We didn't do it even though I have multiple food allergies (and several other family members have FA) and DS has a dairy allergy. I just needed to move through things! He turned out to be fine and at 9 months we've introduced everything. His allergist, ped, and GI discussed allergies with us and none of them bothered to have us space out foods.

Do any of you not follow the 4 day rule for introducing new foods? I was going to but we plan to do BLW and I would like to just feed her things from our meals but we won't be eating the same thing 4 days in a row! We don't have any food allergies in our families and I would spread out the higher allergen foods. Just wondering if this is crazy thinking...
