I'm really sorry you're going through this. Sleep regressions suck!!! DS went through the four month sleep regression for a couple of weeks--they happened to coincide with me going back to work. Nice timing kiddo! He kind of grew out of it. Sorry, no advice. Hang in there mama!

@Bao: At 4 months, it's basically CIO but it only took 1 night for our LO to sort it all out.

We definitely went through it at about 3.5 months. It was terrible. He went from waking 1-2x per night to waking every couple of hours and wouldn't go back to bed unless we rocked him for 30+ mins. Nursing didn't even help.

After about a week of this, both DH and I were so exhausted we finally gave in and sleep trained him with a modified CIO method. It worked and now he sleeps through the night. He's also a much happier baby in the morning.

I also had to sleep train at 4.5 months, but we used Ferber's CIO method. It was a lot less agonizing! Is she easy to put down after you nurse her at night?

Yes we did! DD hit it around 3.5 months and went from 1 waking at 4am to waking up 3-5 times. The only way I could calm her was nursing and this lasted until around 5 months. I was so much in a fog that it took a few days before I realized she was back to one night nursing! In that time she learned to sit on her own and spinning in circles on her belly. She was also learning gross motor skills like passing toys between hands, observing the toy when she plays. I guess it was a lot for her to process and affected her sleep big time.

My LO did, and it was terrible. She used to wake maybe 1 or 2 times a night (where we would just replace her pacifier), but woke almost every hour during the worst of the regression. Her naps were also shorter than 30 minutes. This happened at around 4 months, and lasted a couple of weeks. I don't think she really met any milestones around then either.

We fixed the problem with sleep training at 4.5 months. We used Weissbluth's extinction method, and after that she sleeps through the night and naps for 1+ hours at a time. Good luck!

At 5 months my baby went from sleeping through the night to waking every hour. She has only gone back to sleeping through after being night weaned at 13 months, and still only some nights. At five months she was waking every hour to nurse, and more solids really helped that. Between then and 13 months we had several months of really bad really frequent wakeups. We tried to night wean several times, and only got screaming and tragedy. Then once it just stuck and has worked since then.

She also really changed the way she sleeps. Before it was really heavy and easy for her to get into. Now she's more like an adult - fairly easy to wake, somewhat harder to get to sleep.

Sorry, I know my story isn't encouraging.

@Bao: It only lasted about a week. I tried to make sure to stick to our routine/schedule as closely as possible. I made sure she got her naps in, even if i had to Ergo/stroller her.

We did, but not as bad as some people had it. He went from 1 waking to 2, maybe 3. Around then we swaddle weaned and let him fuss to go to sleep so he learned to sleep on his own Also stuck to a very strict bedtime routine. - all in, the regression lasted around 3 weeks. His naps turned terrible from 4 months - almost 6 months though.

Yes, we hit a sleep regression a little before the 4 month mark. It was also around the time that she found her voice and was "babbling" a lot.

My LO didn't either, but she only takes 3 20-mniute naps during the course of the entire day, so I think she's exhausted come nighttime!

Did your LO go through the 4 month sleep regression? What was it like, and how long did it last? Did they meet any milestones along the way? I think we may be going through this right now. LO was sleeping most of the night, but is now up 8 times a night, on average. Any advice is much appreciated :)
