@Revel: I did; he didn't sleep in the car/seat or swing. We still do white noise & blackout shades for naps at 7 months (sans swaddle).

@Revel: It's not you, it's the baby! Haha. I know that isn't a useful piece of advice, but I PROMISE this is normal (albeit difficult!) newborn sleep, especially as they come out of that sleepy newborn phase and head into the first wonder week. We just used the swing, it was the only way lo would nap for the first few months but it worked.

Plus some babies are nappers. Mine isn't, and she's 9 months old! She's gone through phases where she napped pretty well but not recently. However, even if your lo never becomes a great napper, two things will change: 1) lo becomes more predictable and 2) you get better at reading lo. Those help a lot when it comes to sleep and maintaining your sanity! Even on bad nap days it's not always a huge deal for us. Hang in there!

@Revel: Re: swaddling/nursing/letting her fall asleep on your lap....toward the end of each nursing session, but before she falls asleep, I take a break to check DD's diaper and swaddle her. Then I finish nursing her (usually falls asleep) and can gently transfer her from my lap into her swing. Sounds like this might work for you too?

@Revel: I agree with getting her to sleep before you might necessarily think she's ready...at that age most babies can only go 45 min to 1 hour AT MOST, meaning that many babies can only handle less awake time. The more overtired they get the harder it gets unfortunately! And I would try to make nap time as consistent as possible if you're trying the crib/rock n play. What about babywearing? Does she fall asleep in a carrier?

@sslm: she will sometimes sleep in the stroller, and almost always in the car. She wakes as soon as we stop. Maybe I will just try driving around if necessary. And definitely going to try the swaddle for daytime.

@JoJoGirl: thanks for the look into the future! I'm glad you are having some sleep success. I know you shared another similar thread and it sounds like you had similar sleep difficulties.

@Mrs. High Heels: is it bad if I say she's sleeping nowhere specific? Sometimes in the rnp in the living room, sometimes in her bassinet in the bedroom, mostly in arms or my lap.

@scg00387: so do you swaddle, white noise, dark room etc for every single nap at this stage?

@ALV91711: this. I feel like my whole day is devoted to her sleep sometimes.

14 weeks and my guy is a nap and sleep fighter. He will be yawning and rub his eyes and will take forever to go to sleep. Today he had two one hour naps bac to back( he woke up in the middle to eat). I feel like most of my day is spent trying to get him to sleep.

@Revel: I get it. There was one day that he did not nap more than 30 minutes, in 10 minute increments. I was crying, beside myself, while poor bewildered DH kept saying "what else could we do besides drugging him!". I thought my head was going to explode. It didn't, baby was fine, and the more I kept trying to not stress over it and just do what I could, the better.

Actual things that helped were swaddling tight for all sleep, white noise, blackout shades, and rocking. I would not worry one bit at this age about "habits". My LO had a three week phase where he only slept on me for naps and I just stayed patient and kept trying. He now loves his crib!

It's so hard when you're in the middle of it, I counted down the minutes until DH would be home and I could take a break from trying to get baby to sleep/worrying about baby not sleeping. Then we had 30 minute naps that were terrible teases. Now we get 2 decent naps a day and it's amazing. I agree 100% with @weagle that it is a developmental thing.

Where is she napping? We swaddled and napped in the rock 'n play for the first 5 weeks and the coziness of the Rnp helped a lot. I don't know how successful we would've been in a crib or bassinet.

I can't believe I'm now one of the people saying this, but it might just get better with time. I've posted tons of threads about how my LO woudl NOT NAP EVER and just this week she started napping like a champ for no reason (she's almost 8 weeks). I keep my eye on the clock and around 45 mins - 1.5 hrs after she woke up (depending how fussy she is), i'll swaddle her, put in her paci and rock her, white noise, the whole thing and she'll go down in 15-20 mins. This just started though... the first 7 weeks of her life i'd spend 2-3 hrs (!?!?!?) trying to get her to nap to no avail. Hang in there and give yourself a break for a few days/week then try again.

@Revel: will she sleep in a stroller or the car? Around that time I made it my life's mission to get Madeline down for a nap every 2 hours MAX, earlier than that is better. I went out in the stroller or the car if I had to. And doing that seemed to help us get ahead of the overtiredness. For what it's worth, I'm not sure it's unusual for it to take an hour to get her to sleep at night! We are at 10 weeks and it definitely takes some time.

@scg00387: thanks, I know it won't be forever but the days sometimes feel so long without naps.

@Smurfette: that's a good tip. I've been trying to make more of an effort to get her down sooner, I think it works sometimes. We are swaddling at night, she fights it for a while, but it helps her stay asleep longer.I was considering giving it up because she squirms so much and seems to hate it, but I think it's better for her. I'll give it a shot for day sleep, maybe the consistency will help. One problem is she'll sometimes fall asleep on my lap after nursing, and I'd have to wake her to swaddle, so I just end up letting her sleep in my lap. Not a good habit!

No advice, just hugs. We were so there. I felt like a failure of a mother because all of my friends' babies were sleeping so easily all around me. One day things just clicked, and it's been a breeze since. I now consider sleep as just another milestone that each baby reaches in his/her own time.

I've posted about this a little before and seen some other threads, but I'm just so frustrated with her sleep! She"fights" naps and often takes an hour or more to go down, day and night. It's hardly worth it for a short daytime nap. I can tell she gets overtired but sometimes nothing works.

Some of you have already offered helpful solutions so maybe this is just more of a vent but it just kills my confidence as a mom when I can't get her to sleep...

We've been trying the paci lately but she won't tale it reliably and sometimes it doesn't work to make her nod off anyways.
