It is, absolutely, a phase. My DD went through it for about 6 mos (wanting to sleep in my room or in the livingroom) and now my DS is going through something similar. FWIW, I find my 4 year old DS sleeping on his activity rug (with his pillow, comforter, and a couple stuffed animals) or in his playroom snuggled in his teepee EVERY morning. Whenever I ask why he isn't in his bed, he affords me a different response ranging from "My puppy wanted to sleep here," or "I like my floor," to "I wanna be here." 🤦‍♀️😶😶😶😂 I figure that as long as he is getting the appropriate amount of sleep (he wears a vivofit jr so I track his steps and sleep) and isn't in his closet or the tub (yes, THAT has happened ... and freaked me out), I'm okay with wherever he passes out. My situation does differ from yours in that D doesn't come downstairs and wake DH or me. D knows we have a monitor in his room (due to his speech delay and impediment) to use for emergencies in which he can call for us. He knows to call before coming downstairs so that has (yet) to become an issue.
Best of luck finding a solution that works for both you and your LO.

I've been going through this w my 5 yo daughter but I was able to piece it together with a few things that caused her to "worry" and have "nightmares". It took a few tries to get her to open up.... So Id bet it's something that's bothering him and he either doesn't want to tell you or he may not really know.

On the other hand it could just be a fluke!! Who knows kid sleep is so weird

My 4 year old still comes in our bed every night.. he tells me he'll stop when he's 5. :silly:
We go with it for now because we want our sleep too and we usually don't even notice when he climbs in.

For the past several nights, DS has been waking up at around 1 in the morning and wanted to go to the couch to sleep. Last night, he woke me up to come into my bed (DH put him back in his room after DS fell asleep), and then woke up a couple hours later because he wanted to sleep on the couch. I've asked him why he doesn't want to sleep in his room and he doesn't give a clear answer. I don't really care if he ends up on the couch, but he is waking me up more than the baby. We did get him a new bed with a tent like structure on top about a month ago, but that's the only change. Is this a phase? Please tell me it's a phase.
