@JennyPenny: yeah that's kind of what I thought too, until the director said she wanted to tell me first. Like, tell me first before what? And it was during drop off so a lot going on and not a lot of time to talk. I think I'll send an email and see what they're expectations are I guess. She's been going here since right before turning 2, so, they know her.

@Mrs. Carrot: I thought it was normal too. It's play based learning. But I'm guessing when they sit down to work on a project, tracing letters, doing art projects, etc, is when she's having problems. I think its a little more structured than the previous class and she needs an adjustment period....I am just surprised they're talking to me about it already :bummed:

I think it's totally normal at 4. One thing I realized as my oldest started going through school and different teachers is that sometimes teachers tell you stuff just so you know and not because they think you should do anything about it. And often there isn't anything to be done. So your daughter's teacher might really have just wanted to know if you see that behavior at home too to know if it's consistent and just bring it to your attention. Unless she said something along the lines of "you may want to try working on improving this" I'd assume you don't need to do anything specifically and just trust that it'll improve with age.

My 7 year old has trouble with this at times, so it seems very normal to me for a 4 year old. I'm far from an expert and others might have better input but I might explore more with the center. What do they want her to stay focused on and for how long?

My dd turned 4 in April. Last week she moved into the 4s/preschool room at daycare. This morning the director told me that dd is having trouble focusing and staying on task and asked if she has trouble at home too.... which, the answer is yes. She's my oldest, so I guess I didn't realize that this isn't normal at 4?

Does anyone have any advice or dealt with anything similar? I was a vey shy, quiet child who didn't want to get in trouble, so I have no idea what she needs to help her. I feel lost.
