All the parties we’ve been to include and pizza and juice for the kids + fruit and pizza for the adults plus water. Occasionally there might be soda as well. Even though I’ve never been to a party where there wasn’t food for the adults, people always hang back until the adults are invited to eat, so it’s not an assumed thing.

If I were invited, I would assume everything would be covered - pizza and non alcoholic drinks. I would probably do pitchers of soda, water bottles, and juice for the kids. I wouldn't feel comfortable paying for adults to drink alcohol when driving kids home so I woudn't think twice if that was not covered. Every kid party I have been too has provided pizza to adults as well as children. Good Luck!

@CatchAFallingStar: I liken it to a cash bar at a wedding. I know that's a pretty divisive topic, but the way I was raised, if you're the host, you put out the money to provide refreshments for your guests.

Thanks, everyone! Just to clarify, I will definitely have cake, favors, activities, etc. all covered. I was only wondering about the actual purchases from the pizza place. Thanks for all the advice! I’ll be ordering lots of pizza, salad and drinks! 😀

You pay for everything. I would actually buy a few pitchers of beer too along with sodas and juice boxes. I would pre-order and have things set-up.

ETA: It's probably going to be expensive (relatively speaking), but I'm impressed you've been able to do no party for the past 3 birthdays. If it makes you feel better, during that time I've probably spent $750 on parties.

For 40 people I would order 10 large pizzas. Maybe start with 8, but be prepared to order more.

I would provide enough pizza and drinks for the kids and have a couple extra on hand for the adults. If it was mealtime, I'd expect to buy a meal's worth of pizza for adults as well (which is why I've never scheduled a party outside the house for a mealtime, ha!). Since the kids will likely run through the carousel pretty quickly, I'd either do arcade tokens in goody bags instead of favors or see if the venue will put together a package to include 30 minutes of games or so for the kids.

Your party sounds fun (but pricey :crying: )!

yeah, like most others, I would not expect to pay for food or drink at a party. Skip the favors, no one really cares anyway. I don't at least....

You might need more than 6 pizzas, but order the minimum and ask if you can add on if you need to, i'd assume they could send out another one pretty quickly....

are you doing cake or cupcakes? if so then maybe less pizza knowing all the kids will have a cupcake/slice of cake.

If the party is at a meal time, then I would expect to provide food and drinks for everyone. If it's outside of a meal time, then maybe you can get away with just for the kids.

You describe it as a pizza place with a carousel... what is everyone going to to do at the party? If the main activity is carousel, that's going to get boring pretty fast, and if you're expecting that the main activity would be arcade, then you'll need to provide some tokens for each child as well. I would probably reconsider inviting that many people!

You definitely need to pay. I'd ask for 5 pizzas double cut. For drinks, most people don't do soda here, so I'd probably just do water (assuming they don't have juice boxes or pitchers.

Yeah, you host, you're paying. But this is the norm where I am because the places have packages. You would purchase a set number of pies and a set number of pitchers (they will tell you what is included). The only food you're normally allowed to bring in is the cake.

As for the adults, I think it is nice to offer food to the parents if it is a meal time.

@CatchAFallingStar: You could always do pizza for the kids only. Here it’s about half and half as to adults included in food. It does annoy me though cause it’s lunchtime and the parents stand around like {.....} lol.

Thanks, everyone!

@Jennibenni: The carousel is free. However, there are also arcade games that aren’t free.

You order at the counter, but they only do full pizzas. So, I guess we would just order like 6 large pizzas? And pitchers of soda, water and juice.

The host would pay for food and drinks. If the pizza place serves alcohol you can let the parents know they can order and pay directly to the establishment. However, I would likely refrain from alcohol myself as the host if I wasn’t paying for others to drink too. The host would provide at least one or two carousel rides. Whenever I have gone to arcade parties the host provides at least the first 10 coins and then after that the guest parents pay for additional play.

Where we live almost every party is outside of the home (apartments). Food and drink is provided for all kids and adults. Sometimes it’ll be something else for adults besides pizza (sandwich ring and a big salad or something). But always food and drink for both adults and kids.
Drink is usually soda and water for adults. Juice and water for kids.
And then of course cake.

Admittedly I have not attended lots of kids parties but if my child were invited I would assume pizza and drink would be provided for my kid. I would not expect anything to be provided for me.

What kind of place is it? Like is it table service? Counter service? By the slice or whole pizzas only? If table service and or whole pizzas only it seems awkward to expect guests to pay their own way. Easier to get away with with counter service and slices available. Also is the carousel free? If not are you paying for that? I’d find it odd to attend as a guest and have to pay for my child’s drink and entertainment.

If I was invited to a party at a place, I would expect the host to pay for pizza and drinks (waters, juice for kids, some sodas or seltzer’s). Probably a lot of the parents will only have a slice and a water. But I would be surprised if I was asked to pay for my drink (unless they had a bar and I ordered an alcoholic drink or something).

Also a pizza place with carousel sounds really cute!

We’re having DD’s party at her favorite place (a pizza parlor with a carousel). We’re inviting about 40 people, including kids and their mamas. I’m assuming it’s expected that we provide all the pizza. Am I right? And they would purchase their own drinks, etc.? This is my first time having a birthday party for a kid outside of our home. And also the first time that she’s having friends come! So, I’m a little clueless.

Thank you and happy new year!
