DS was also a rubbish napper until 7/8 months, once he was physically on the move he was exhausted after shuffling about all day and his naps consolidated.
Try hard not to spend naps just googling how to extend them and sitting watching the clock, as soon as the nap starts get yourself a cuppa and watch some tv/read a book, they will naturally lengthen soon.

My first son was/is a great napper, but this one (3 months old) is a horrible napper. He takes 4-5 cat naps every single day no matter what I do. He always sleeps in his crib no problem, but he just always wakes after 30-35 min.

But, he normally sleeps 6:30pm-7:00 am with 1 wake up to eat then back down during the night, so can't really complain about his night sleep.

Mine did that too. The way we overcame it, was at 5.5 months, I let her cry for 10 min if she had a short nap. 90% of the time, she fell back asleep after 8 min (exactly 8 min - it was so weird). After a few weeks, she started lengthening the naps. And if she didn't fall back asleep after 10 min, I got her up. It was nice to finally have a plan, and having the longer naps meant she could stay up longer, so we could go down to 2 predictable naps. It was heaven.

When we moved from three naps to two around fiveish months his naps got a little longer (around an hour instead of 30-40 minutes). Now at almost 7 months he is just starting to sometimes nap more than one hour.

Naps naturally start lengthening around 6-7 months. Before then a 45 minute nap is technically considered a long nap. I personally don't believe there's much you can really do to change sleep except wait for it to naturally get better.

I have a short napper. He has napped in his stroller from 4 month to now at almost 11 months. When we can't walk out side we walk the halls of our building. The mornings he will often do a double and sleep for 80 or 90 minutes. Afternoon is usually 40-60. Generally his night time sleep is pretty good. I spent a lot of time freaking out about it but have just decided that this is how he is. He's happy and healthy and a short napper.

Good luck

My son napped for 30 minutes exactly until just after 12 months when I switched to one nap a day. He had a month or so of good naps around 8 months but went back to 30ins after that. It was not fun. Hang in there.

ETA: @madison43: yes I spent every nap googling ways to make him nap longer then trying them and it never worked. I wish I had accepted it too.

Yep. I did that. We'd also stick him in the swing to finish his nap and it worked some of the time. It unfortunately was just something he had to grow out of.

Same as @winniebee and @Adira - cat naps until we moved to a 2 nap schedule. I tried everything to "fix" it and nothing did. I would have saved myself a lot of time and aggravation if I had just accepted it. I'm trying to implement this more relaxed mindset with LO2's sleep now and it's easier said than done.

No advice, but sympathy! We had a cat napper at that age, too. I thought it would never end, but around six months she started to stretch them out on her own.

Probably not ideal, but my LO woyld only take a long nap if I took her on a stroller walk at that age. It meant I couldn't relax, obviously, but she got a long nap and I got exercise and fresh air.

ETA: I sort of forgot that I live in California, and walking isn't probably realistic in most places. Sorry!

I tried everything with my boys. They were chronic cat nappers at that age. DS1 from 3.5-5 months. DS2 from 3.5-7 months. They just had to outgrow it unfortunately!

We have been seriously struggling this month with fussiness and naps (as I previously wrote about in my post) and I blamed 4 month regression. I stayed home this week since my LO will be 5 months on Sunday to try and start implementing good naps. Yesterday sucked. He napped 4 mini naps 30-40 mins each. Today I read about "anticipation" when they start to wake after 45 mins and can't get to the next cycle. So at the 45 min mark like clockwork he started to stir. I usually just get him up but today I shushed/patted him back to sleep and he slept for another 40 mins!!!! I couldn't believe it. Has anyone tried this with success? Is there another method I could get my LO to nap longer?

Update on my last post: He's still waking up all night about every other hour and needing to be soothed back to sleep
