i see a lot of babies, toddlers and older kids having trouble on monday mornings at daycare. even if you were to hold him less on the weekends, there is a chance that your LO would still have to go through a bit of transition at the beginning of every week. i'm not meaning to make this sound hopeless, but rather to let you know that i think this behavior is totally normal for kids of all ages (i saw a 4-year hold sweetly sitting on his dad's lap and hugging him for a few minutes by the door this past tuesday) and doesn't mean that you're doing anything "wrong". no matter what, your LO will always prefer being at home with you and your husband.

@Ali-oop: My pediatrician said it's common for babies to eat less when they have a sore throat/earache, since it hurts to swallow (althooough if he's just taking less from a bottle and wanting to make up for it by nursing more, that's clearly a different issue.)

@raspberries: He's actually fighting a nasty cold. Has been for about a week now. So that could be it too.

Is it possible your LO is catching his first cold? My 5.5 month old is always clingy and eats less when he's coming down with something, and he was sick constantly after he started daycare (this is a particularly bad winter for colds, or so I've heard!)

I don't think you should hold him less when you are with him just so he's less used to it for day care days. My son's not in day care but we have our challenging moments (my husband watches him) after a stretch of days off. I just give him extra love when I can because I think eventually they feel more secure and safe knowing that you always come back and fill up their cuddle bank!

I went back to the work at the beginning of this month after 18 weeks with my son. I knew it would be an adjustment for him and we've had some struggles with him taking the bottle, but he seemed to get better last week. This past weekend was a long weekend for me since my office was closed on Monday. Yesterday he was at daycare and the teacher made a note that he wanted to be held alot and he ate less than he usually does. Today my inlaws are watching him and he's not eating as much and is clingy with them as well. My husband thinks it's because I was with him for three days straight. And I'll be honest, I hold him alot on the weekends because I don't see him all day during the week and I miss him. Am I making it more difficult for the people who watch him during the week? Or will he get used to his new schedule as time goes by?
