I also thought his words and support of his wife were beautiful. I cannot imagine how scary and hard that situation must have been for them. I don't pretend to know how I would feel, or what I would have done.

I love that he shared openly and honestly about a topic that can be so taboo and divisive. I hope that it gives validation and strength to others going through similar situations. Trust your gut and your spouse, and honor your emotions.

I thought it was really brave of Torrey Smith to blog about the challenges of his wife's pregnancy (suspected Trisomy 18) and discuss the difficult choices they were facing. Thankfully results came back negative.

"Being in this situation has changed the way I view everything about it. I realized I have no right to suggest to her what she should do. I can talk about the pros and cons of each, or maybe even make suggestions, but I couldn’t pressure her one way or the other. When I realized that, it hurt me to the core. I feared that I could lose both of them. I also didn’t know how she could handle carrying a baby for months knowing what the ultimate outcome would be. Being selfish in that way made me think the only thing we could do is terminate the pregnancy. She still wasn’t sure and I would respect her decision either way."
